To be honest I am still getting used to being 'tethered' like that -- the rig definitely adds a huge amount of stability, but I will need some more work with it before feeling comfortable. I did not look at the Bushhawk since I wanted something more general purpose.
Wow pingflood these are great! I'm sorry I've been away busy getting a set of photos ready for my first gallery show. So I've been mostly shooting landscapes lately. But when that's all over I'll be back at the birds!

Some very fine images there Conrad (egret action) and Ping (herons).
Hehe thanks Peter! I played hookie from work to get those one day. Oh by the way, I've been shooting RAW lately. The only thing is I get this banding thing really bad now when before I never did. Still got lots to learn haha!

Tell us about the gallery show. Sounds like you're doing pretty well!
Oh its nothing really Ping. Benicia is a town of about 20K people that deosnt really have a real gallery. Instead, they have an arts and crafts store and a real estate office that both alternate showings for local painters and photographers. Well this lady did a search for local photographers and saw my work and invited me to participate with a couple other guys to do this show. She mentioned my birds and my landscapes are much better than the other two and I have a much greater variety and consequently, a greater chance of selling my prints. If you ever have the chance my stuff is at www.flickr.com/conradtan1969/sets for now until I get my website up. Thanks for asking Pingflood!
(Dude I think I've asked you before but what's your name?)

It's Christer (Swedish in case you wonder ).
Hopefully you'll get some business out of your opportunity.
By the way, since you are now a RAW shooter, what CF cards do you use? I just got my 50D so been using my 16 gig Kingston 133X but it really isn't very speedy (good enough for the 9 meg/second my 1DsII can push through on a good day, but the 50D can cram data onto cards a hell of a lot faster).

Oh no no no... 133X is way too slow my friend. From my experience, I would not use anything slower than 300X. I used an 8gig Kingston 133X but realized that when its writing after a burst, my 50D literally STOPS shooting while the buffer clears. And I mean stops shooting. I have to wait so long and the action is over. This never ever happens after I went with the Lexar Pro UDMA 300X. It will shoot a burst, then after it will shoot at least 2 more per second while the buffer clears. I'd keep that Kingston only for backup. I hope this helps Christer!
I'm keeping the 133x for my 1Ds2 since it isn't a very speedy writer no matter what kind of card you put in (and the type of shooting I do with it now doesn't really need high write performance).
Picked up a PNY UDMA 266x at lunch today, according to Rob Gabraith's DB it writes at 29.8 meg/second which is pretty decent for $39/8GB. Your Lexar is a little speedier (31 meg or so) but I couldn't find it locally here...

I see! 29.8 is quick enough. If only the Lexar wasn't so expensive! I'd buy more
How much did it set you back? Fry's here (you probably have one where you live) had the one I got for $39.99 on sale, which is a good deal for 8GB 266x.
edit: lovely shot (though you might want to see if you can burn a little more detail into the head, at least on my monitor it looks a little too bright)! I am going on vacation for a couple of weeks (will be staying at home--Hilton Head island--but my parents are visiting from overseas) so planning on doing some shooting. Found a few "promising" spots.

I shot that last one with JPG a few weeks ago before I discovered RAW. Haha! Sorry about the blown out whites. Anyway, the 300X Lexar was $120 with a $20 rebate (which I'm still waiting for) so it was $100. Not too bad. They have a sale every Friday locally.
