Thanks! Did you run it through neatimage or do any other noise reduction? The blue is incredibly smooth.
At ISO 200 and 33% crop which that image is I don't have to run NR.
If I cropped to 50% or more, I might have considered NR.
Generally, on 1DMkIIN, noise starts to emerge at ISO400 and naturally gets more visible/objectionable with enlargement cropping.

thanks Todd!
You see Conrad.... you will never really win when you are competing against a girl.
If your images keep getting better I may have to break out the tears for the sympathy vote

Just a follow-up: we took your advice and put in a tree and bird bath to make some better perches. As soon as it stops raining (sigh) I'll try to get some more shots. The female cardinal visited yesterday, but was very skittish and took off before I could get a shot.
Also put some peanuts out and have gotten a crowd of squirrels to come around.

Set up a bird feeder in the backyard last week, and am finally starting to get some visitors. Here are some shots with 400/5.6 shot through a double pane window:

Where is everyone?
Conrad is probably trying to find something cute to photograph
I had a great Mother's Day..... the boys bought me a bird feeder
Happy Mother's Day Noelle! I've been out practicing with yet another 1DII I've borrowed. I'll be putting up some pictures from it soon... Can't wait to see the shots from the bird feeder hehe... Are you going to build a set up like Wing's?

Yes....today I have sighted Conrad sitting on the dock of the Bay.
Apparently he's given up photography and picked up fishing. The pressure of this 400 f/5.6 competition seems to have finally taken its toll on him. He looked like he aged a lot in the past month or so.
Fine shooting, Conrad.
I like the head on cormorant in flight shot a lot, and the pijun is well caught too.
The blackbird is perfectly exposed, no doubt.
You are obviously getting the knack for photographing dark coloured birds now.

Ahhh... but YOU are still the pijun master! Going to try to get some more head-on shots today. Those are tons of fun to try to get! Also saw some nesting swallows I'll be trying to get as well today. I'll post em later tonight!

Good man, also watch the brown colour cast on cormorants and pijuns. Late golden sunlight tends to push the spectrum towards yellows/reds, yet in your images above the plumage colour goes a bit beyond whats plausible. If you are doing JPGs, make sure your camera colour tone is set to neutral=0.

Ahh... I've got the saturation at 3 I think. I've been shooting jpg like you! Haha!
Conrad, beautiful series. You're a real inspiration!
I'm back to ugly Atlanta again, another week at work until I can go back to Hilton Head and chase birds. I did score a picture of a mysterious sea creature before heading back though...
(edit: also, thank you all for sharing your work -- it's great seeing everyone progressing and the wonderful results. What a talented group!)

Cute photo pingflood! Glad to be an inspiration too! I never thought I'd be the type to inspire anyone! Hehe....
