Peachy picture, Henry.
If I didn't know better I'd guess 50 f/1.0. Well, almost....
That's a 180mm at f3.5 but I must admit that I had never thought about using a 50mm f/1.0 for flowers. Might be a lot of fun but it would also be a major expense to find out! These are from a lunch time outing today with an 85L.
Thanks.....for that one I used a Canon 85mm f/1.2 and one 12mm extension tube to close in the focus distance. Shot at around f/1.2 to f/1.4 handheld. These are sort of composed...its more like you find a spot you want in focus and are pleasantly surprised with how the rest of it turns out...
I bought some tubes one day and looked at my lens pile and decided to try them out on my best lens to see what it could do. So basically you are taking a lens that hopefully already does nice bokeh wide open and then bringing it closer in using the tubes.
I like the thin dof stuff because the world is full of stopped down bright sharp shots of flowers but crafted thin dof shots are a bit rarer. The interplay between the in focus and out of focus elements gives you a lot to tell a story or create a mood with.
Gee whiz, this flowering season has started with a real bang already......even master Karl is posting his jewel like shots.
(Note to m'self: I need to pull out some heavy duty bokeh guns.)
