I've got a shoot today and then my 1D III is going in for the fix.
Haven't noticed any issues before, but the sensor needs cleaning and I'm going to be gone on vacation while it's being serviced anyways, so the timing is good.

263?? My 1DsMkIII is being collected by UPS on Monday & I have been told that I'll have it back on Thursday. Either it doesn't take long or they have everyone working on it I guess.
Took mine in to Canon UK on Friday and received it back from UPS today (Tuesday). Good service, no issues.
Fed Ex just delivered my 1DMKIII. Was received by VA on 3/5 and shipped back on 3/9. I had no problems with the camera before sending it in. The Service Details state: "All adjustments and corresponding testing have been completed to Canon factory standards. Firmware was updated to latest version."
I had to reenter the date and time. All cfn settings seem to be the same. Time to go check it out.
Well I shipped mine out on 3/4 using the UPS ground label I got from Canon.. what a mistake.
It is now 3/10 and so far (from UPS tracking) my camera just made it to Illinois. I knew that would happen when I dropped it off. I should have paid the extra and bumped it up to 2 day. That's 6 days from Arizona to Illinois and it still has to make it to the east coast before getting into the queue . I don't know how they will send it back, I hope it isn't ground again. At this rate I might get it back by April.
Think I will call CPS to see if they can bump it up a bit.

I sent an email to Canon support with my serial number. We shall see what they say. I have a shoot in two 1/2 weeks. I think I should probably wait sending it in.
Why don't you just call them? They will ask your serial #, and will send you the shipping lable if your camera needs the fix !
Both my 573xxx and 503xxx need to be sent in for the fix.

I sent mine in yesterday.. Mine is a 513xxx. AF was terrible.Especially since getting a 500mm lens. Haven't been able to get a decent BIF at all. Keeping my fingers crossed this does the trick. Hope everyone posts the results after the fix. I live in Va about 45 mins from the Canon plant, so hopefully it won't take long. They don't allow Drop offs, so I had to send it.
Well I don't notice any difference with anything after the service. It may lock focus a bit more quickly but having just spent the past few days with my 20D I'd bet teh farm that's just my perception. Focus seems to be the same on all focus points center and perimeter.
Interestingly it went in with the file number 18 higher than it came back with. Also all of the settings except for the cfn settings were back at the defaults, sRGB, sound when focus achieved, etc. It's great to have the beast back.
What was the turn around? I sent mine to Irvine yesterday....Of course I put the "I'm a CPS member" written in a conspicuous location on the service request (that and a buck seventy will get me a venti @ SB). Baseball is in full swing!
Mine got to them in about 16 hours thanks to surprisingly good shipping. It has now been with them for over two full work days (4 days total) and they don't even have it logged in yet.

1 1/2 hours after writing this my camera appeared on my doorstep via Fed-X. Basically a good thing but I had been trying to get them to look at something else that I forgot to write on the form and had been told that there was no way to do so since the camera hadn't been logged in. Their old log in system isn't being used so you may want to be aware of that.
Won't have a chance to test for a day or so but will post when I do.
I've just been using the center point. When I first got the 500mm lens and tried the assist points all I got was a big blur with everything else around it in sharp focus. Center spot still doesn't seem good at all. Maybe one keeper in 50 shots. ugh I realize I need time to get used to the lens. I was used to shooting with the 400mm, but I had a lot of trouble with BIF with that lens too. I never had a problem with my MK2. Keeping my fingers crossed that they fix it.
For those who have gotten them back, did you receive a tracking email?? Mine was in shipping today at noon and if shipped today I'd have it tomorrow. They cannot tell me if it shipped but said I would get an email from Fed ex when it was scanned, which I did not get. I am hoping is shipped and they dont send the email.

Did anyone get that shipping confirmation email??
Andy
I didn't get anything from them telling me that they had logged it in or sent it back. Just heard a knock at the door and there was the Fed-X lady with my camera. This is not how it is suppose to work according to Canon tech support which just goes to show that once again they don't have a friggin' idea what is going on.
My 1DIII and 1DsIII went in yesterday and were done in a day.
*** according to the CPS guys *** the fix was applied to all the cameras used at the Tennis at Melbourne and they had a 100% sucess rate, and it was very hot ... here's hoping.
If that's the case, don't expect a 1DIV for some time given current fiscal problems.
Never had much of an issue with mine, except I run the 300f2.8 at f5.6 just in case ...
yea I spoke to CPS today & they told me about the tennis. They mentioned that they did the same testing in 2008 at the Aus open & had major problems. The same tests this year resulted in 100% success rate.
Mine are going in asap.
