So what do you think about your Mark III now ?. Super ? Very good ? Just curious.

I think they probably we're coming up with the current fix and used me as a quinea pig. I was a bit dissapointed that I didn't get a new camera but I just want it to work properly....
Seems really good now though I haven't had any situations that really challenge my AF recently. Haven't had any unexplained OOF images like I've had in the past but the jury is still out
My 1Ds Mk3 was at Canon UK having the focus looked at when this news broke (I was having poor results using even one shot). I checked that they had done this latest fix before collecting it. When I went in I asked to see the supervisor to double check. He said it is NOT a hardware fix. Canon Japan released new software (not firmware) around Christmas time that allow far more accurate calibration of the AF - and that is the fix!
I called in on canon uk (live near by) this afternoon and was told I would be contacted when they were ready to do the fix.. there were 263 bodies in front of mine and they didnt know how long it would take their techs to carry out the repair or indeed how many techs were going to be assigned to doing them :/

263?? My 1DsMkIII is being collected by UPS on Monday & I have been told that I'll have it back on Thursday. Either it doesn't take long or they have everyone working on it I guess.
I'm glad that I am still shooting with Canon 30D. I don't have to worry about the AF problem, because I know I will never get focused shots with 30D in AI servo mode!!!

Mine was one of the first manufactured that did not need the sub assembly fix. It still needs this new AF fix.
Ours are close relatives then. Bought it the day they became available again and it's just outside the previously affected range, by 20 or 30 or so. It sure is going back for this fix...

I am thinking that Canon is unlikely to ever offer calibration of the X0D bodies no matter how bad the AF might be. Due to the sales volume of those bodies, it would be way to expensive for Canon.

Can performance be accurately predicted from serial number? If so, is this information available anywhere?

I sent my 30D in for AF checks twice under warranty, because I thought the low-light AI Servo was not much better than my 10D. In hindsight, I think the much higher frame rate of the 30D gave me more OOF shots, but the percentage of in-focus was probably higher.
My 40D is better, but still not where I need it. That's why I'm planning on a used MkIII. If I can get it at a good price, it will still be a huge improvement over my 40D, even if the AF isn't up to where a 1-Series should be.
Well just called Canon to get an update on mine and they received it Friday and I never heard anything from them. I was put on hold and a different rep was on the phone and stated my MKIII should arrive today via Fed Ex overnight. So I was pleasantly surprised since I haven't heard a thing haha.
So I will try mine out today with the new recall fix and new firmware.
I sent mine in yesterday.. Mine is a 513xxx. AF was terrible.Especially since getting a 500mm lens. Haven't been able to get a decent BIF at all. Keeping my fingers crossed this does the trick. Hope everyone posts the results after the fix. I live in Va about 45 mins from the Canon plant, so hopefully it won't take long. They don't allow Drop offs, so I had to send it.

I don't think so...
My MKIII is a 573xx and I went ahead and sent it in anyways...Can't hurt..least I hope not lol
I sent an email to Canon support with my serial number. We shall see what they say. I have a shoot in two 1/2 weeks. I think I should probably wait sending it in.
