I got kicked out of my well-paid job in the steel mills, and my pension got cut in half by PBGC. Now, my 1991 Ford has to last another 18 years because I simply cannot afford even a Hyundai.
What a pension? Most people under 50 have never even seen one. But, there 401Ks that they contributed into are now worth 30% of what they were a year ago.
First I have to pay off my Digital hearing aids.$$$$
2 more camera plates for the ballhead.
Sigma 530G Flash
2 short trips, under 200 miles one way, in state (WA).
1 trip to Yosemite, 4 days
If lucky a 135 f2L or 300 f4L to put on the credit card in December.
I've already been doing my part for the economy this year; having just bought:5DII, 50mm F/1.2L, 300mm f/4LIS, 70-200mm f/4LIS. Probably can't afford too much more this year
Except perhaps a ZE21mm. Billingham bag. Maybe a new flash. 16-35mm looks nice.
I can't think of any piece of gear that would improve my photos. Not that there isn't better equipment out there, but my equipment can do a good job of anything I ask of it, so "better" equipment would just be a waste. Better to save money for later than to piss it away on incremental upgrades.
If it ends up being usable as such, I might buy the Panasonic G1-followup to use as a video camera. I have no video camera, and I could definitely use one. But I don't want to carry a still and video camera at the same time. This camera would be the perfect fit for me.
Half the fun is not having any clue what wild impulses will take hold of me at any given moment!
Right now I only "plan" to buy another 85mm f1.8 to replace the one I foolishly sold a while ago.
But I can see buying any of the following as well.
24L I or II
Zeiss 21
35L
300 2.8
400 DO
The last two are unlikely, and it would only be one or the other, but like I said, I often get taken by a wild impulse, so I never say "never" any more!
EDIT: actually, I could even see getting one of the new tilt-shifts....I should never have gotten involved in this thread! Now I am thinking about purchase ideas that had not even occurred to me before...
Probably the only sure thing will be a 16-35 2.8 II and another body. I may get another 5D body (though I'd love the MKII) and it just depends how much work I can get as to which body will be coming.
I wish for a 35L, 135L and will probably not buy those. Maybe a 35/2 just to have a cheap 35mm prime to play with.
Canon 5D2 - Bought 3 weeks ago.
Canon 580EXII
Sekonic L358
Elinchrom Deep Octa
Canon 500F4LIS
Either repair or replace my 15mm Fish that is currently broken.
Repair the front element of my 24-105.
I finally upgraded to full-frame and needed to get another super wide lens. The 100 f2.8 was a one-time chance when I saw it well discounted at CircuitCity.
