Not trying to blast you Indy but it would appear you have a couple of if not world record then definitely in the running for high shutter count Nikon digitals. I would really in all seriousness thing Nikon would be interested in hearing about this story. My gear is tough but not that tough. The most nuclear hardened thing I own is a Canon F1 that has been through battlefield conditions and still keeps ticking. Never been serviced other than my own cleanings.

I hate to mention it, but there's a guy on dpr that goes by the name of PerfectPoms who is simply incredible with the amount of photos that he takes of his dogs. Last I recall, he went through a couple d70s, then a couple d2h's and is now working on a couple d2x's or maybe d3's by now......
Here's a post where he stated that he got 637,000 shots from the "original" shutter of his d2hs. I can recall seeing posts from him where he claimed to have shot well over 6k shots of his dogs during a walk in the park.

+1 I agree that you should contact nikon USA and let them know what you've got. They might be interested and send you a Tshirt or something. IIRC, perfectpoms did his 600k+ in less than a year and that nikon Canada was quite impressed when he sent it in for a shutter replacement. I don't recall what he said about the Canadian records.

You should sell it as a low shutter count D2H with under 10,000 actuations like everyone else does .
Also what everyone decides is a keeper is different, for me a keeper doesn't have to be print and sale ready, especially since this is my hobby and not my job. Keep that in mind guys.

That is 682 pictures a day, 365 days per year for the 5 whole years the camera has been available plus the 56 days this year including today. Restated thats over 1200 pictures for every working day a year. That really seems like a bit much, did it every smoke and groan.
1200 a day is not really much. Just ask sports shooters and wedding photographers. 2k+ images for a wedding is not that much. Besides, 1200 a day at 8fps is a mere two and a half minutes shooting. Well, probably about 5-10 minutes with the buffer timeout.

I sold my D2X at 820,000 actuations 6 or 8 months ago and told the guy (a good friend) I would pay for the repairs is it broke in the next 200,000. I bet he's close to racking up an additional 50,000 by now - haven't checked though.
Still 820,000 is a LOT less than: "Camera Actuations: 1,283,240"

It has been refreshing for me to read all these posts about the reliability of Nikon gear. Indeed it is not surprising since I have used Nikon bodies for over 40 years and although I do not consider myself a professional I never had to send a body for adjustments or repairs.
I own a D2H. It is my favorite camera and it is very reliable. I have slightly over 30k shutter actuations in it. Never a problem; always gives me beautiful files with awesome colors. Its AF and firing rate are fast, I do not need to say that. Recently I took a file to be printed 16x20 and all the colors and details were there so, those 4 megapixels are very capable.
Hey, I use my D1X regularly and the camera is already 8 years old! Never a problem with the D1X either.
Noise at high ISO settings? Yes, but controllable using some overexposure and perhaps a noise reduction software. I am not a high ISO shooter anyway.

Wow, I feel so inferior with my measly 63,280 on my D80... If I hold the shutter button in for the next 111 hours at 3 frames per second I think I can catch up to you.

I also take a lot of shots but 1200 every single working day 220 days a year for 5 years on the same camera is really working hard period, thats my only point, the man is a working machine.

HAHA, that is too funny. Somehow I have the feeling that if I tape down the shutter button on one of my Canon's right now it will fail exactly as predicted, planned failure. Not too happy with those boys right now.

are you a sports or news photographer employed full time to shoot? if not i kind of doubt that your shutter count is as impressively high as you think.

That picture sucks, not trying to be an azz but with a claimed >98% keeper rate on over a million shots you would think that anything you fired off would be at the very least "average"

Not trying to be azz but did you expect art for a test shot
