Nice one! That's a first, I think . . . assuming that's an A900 he's shooting with.

Interesting to see that, like the Zeiss 17-35mm, it's Zone C performance at f5.6 is similar to f10, which could be a very good sign.

Is it just me or is there a huge amount of distortion in the sample shots posted above at the zetaboards link?

Is it me, or are most of those 10 shots amazing. Some of the details I see are incredible, and what about the 3d effect.

More pics from the same person

Mark,

I really hope you make this a top priority to convert to Canon mount, no pressure though

There is a much better way. It costs 3000$ though

Just wondering what happened to the obscure MTF that Sony Germany had shortly published on their website and suddenly disappeared. Do we have any official MTF for the ZA lenses? Where are they to be found?

Well...

I saved a copy of the German Sony product brochure when it appeared. It had the MTF's in it. Be aware, however, these are not Zeiss MTF's, they are Sony MTF's and are calculated like all the other Sony (and Minolta) MTF's -- and therefore not directly comparableto Zeiss' MTF's. Here are the Sony MTF's for the ZA 135/1.8 from the product brochure:

Wow! Thanks Lotusm50, I have been looking for this MTF graph.
Smart idea to grab this info before it disappeared.
Pretty impressive f1.8 wide open graph, huh?
I love this lens.
Could you post this graph again in my CZ-Sony 135 f1.8 on 1ds3 thread?

Do you have any MTF graphs for the CZ-Sony 85 f1.4, 135STF or the new 16-35?

Thanks for the MTF guys. Even though these graphs are computed not actually measured, and that I find some at f/8 really incredible (and unbelievable) , the computed performance wide open of the 16-35 and 24-70 has nothing too exciting about it.

Wow, the MTF for 16-35 looks pretty bad in the corners. The actual pics look pretty good though, but we still have to see some 100% crops of the corners.

I'm starting to be convinced that for Zeiss aficionados like your humble servant Sony is the way to go. They now cover a range from 16 to 135mm in 4 lenses with more to come. Not wanting to rely on MTF charts but from what we have seen so far in terms of samples and user reviews, the ZA line seem to produce nicer and more consistent results than the ZF/ZE with seemingly inexistent QC issues (none afaik) and more modern designs (zooms, ED glass, closer MFD, and, not that I consider this as an advantage, AF).

Edward

I am also starting to feel the same about the Sony system. But I have some nice Leica, Contax and Zuiko glass for which I wish there were adapters to the Sony/Alpha A mount. I know that the flange distance is similar to the Canon (44mm vs 44.6) so technically I believe it can be done, but can’t find anywhere.
