Yes, I was referring to the older hard cases that used to come with the Canon TC's. They work perfectly for storing the lens with a Canon adapter and the original 49-72mm hood (which is what you have) and lens cap attached:

I gave all those nice Olympus leather cases to my wife for her utensils, since I have learned from a website that organic material like leather is excellent food for fungus.
I store them "naked" in my foamed Peli cases with Silica Gel.

pdmphoto - that is likely LH-B8 I think (look on the bottom of the case). Agreed the canon lens cases are handy, I use them for a lot of alt glass.
btw, neither the Canon LH cases nor the Olympus black cases are made of real leather. And fungus can grow anywhere- it's more about heat and humidity than leather/velvet/plastic/etc. Silica gel is a good idea, though.
I store mine in the hard cases (oly and Canon mainly), but I put the lens in a ziploc bag first, then into the case. I try to keep relative humidity in the room they are stored in between 35 - 55%.

I keep packages of Silica Gel in the covered book shelf where I keep the lenses. How long does these silica gel package last? Or do they keep absorbing humidity forever?

They don't absorb forever, only until their limit is reached. they can be dried out in an oven and then re-used. the better ones have color-indicator packaging to indicate when they are 'full' of humidity.

I'm just dropping a placeholder into this thread. I have two planned Oly 18 shots that are waiting for the right combination of sunny skies and clouds. Both shots are within walking distance of my house - unfortunately, there is no sunshine within walking distance of my house these days...

an Oly 49-72mm step up ring for the 18mm lens just sold on ebay with a BIN of $18. Sadly I missed it, or else I would have gotten it to pass along to the folks here that need one.
The known Oly reseller/flogger with userID of limeridge1997 was the buyer, so expect it to show up soon under his sales, probably at an inflated price, no doubt (like most of his arbitrage attempts on oly stuff...overpriced... though perhaps not quite as insanely egregious as olympususa 's pricing attempts).

I have a few of the metal oly 50/1.4 / 35/2.8 hoods that I was going to try cutting down to see if they could work as a petal hood on the 18. They are 49mm-front-element clamp-on type so should fit ok.
