Anyone know of any threads comparing the IQ of the ID mk2 N vs the 50D or the 5D....I'm looking to upgrade to something better than my 10D...which I mainly use for studio work and (with L lenses) gives very good images.
Or have personal experience of using any two or all of these cameras.....
Studio work, L-lenses, Image Quality, coming from a 10D: go 5D. It will give you the best IQ of the bunch you mentioned and quite similar in handling and weight compared to your 10D. It's gonna be quite a step forward in image quality but take some time to get used to full frame and save some money for a different lens setup now that you will not have the 1.6 FOV effect. Have EOSfun
If all I ever shot was studio stuff, I'd never need more then some good lens and a 5D. However life doesnt live in a studio for me. I choose the 1 series anytime over a 5D or a 50D. Simply for the body, the AF, and the 1.3 crop which is just right(for me)
IQ of the 1D II is excellent, but won't match the resolution of the 5D/50D in general. For landscape or portrait work I'd say 5D any day. For faster work like sport or wildlife action the 1D II is excellent. The 50D is great for FL limited birding.
Studio work would be 5D... anything PJ/sports/wildlife would be 1D2N.
I would make the 50D my last choice for any application with the other two as choices.

Well for sports and PJ of course the 1d, no question- but as far as the wildlife application goes- The resolution of the 1d2 and 1d2N is a bit lower than some would like these days for cropping tight on small wildlife, especially birds. For birds in good lighting, the 50D would be a venerable choice- especially if you have good, sharp teles.

My main work is art nude / fashion / model portfolios. I do landscapes but B+W mainly via my 1V and Pan F...which I also use in the studio...
Everyone here has already said it...if you are doing studio work, the 5D is hard to beat. I have seen some 5D bodies selling for 1K, which is an amazing bargain. It is a wonderful camera and the release of it's successor in no way diminishes how good this camera body is. It is my wife's favorite camra body (over three 1 series bodies in the house).
I only recently acquired my IIN to back up my mkIII, but I have been very impressed with it so far. If you think you may shoot sports are BIF, then the IIN may be the better choice. If you are sure that the studio is where you will spend the majority of your time, the 5D is still an awesome body capable of producing some stellar images.
Thanks everyone...I will try and borrow a 5D to try it out. I have down loaded a full res portrait from a 1D 2N which I printed at A3+ size.....and was very impressed. If the 5D betters this then it will be amazing.....

Does anyone actually read what the OP asked?
Pretty sure he did not enquire about the 1DsMk2, and he said
5D for studio work, out of the 3 cameras you asked about.
Key words "mainly use..." so leads me to believe not solely to be used for studio.
Sorry can't help it...last day of freedom for a few months I'm just posting away!
