there is no universal Nikon RAW. they are unique to the camera they come from, so you need to say 'will a RAW file from a Nikon Dxxx work in elements 6/7'.

in the worst case, you can use the Adobe DNG converter and let elements suck in the resulting .dng (or .tif or whatever)

no, the DNG converter is free (but yes, it's only available from the Adobe website).

if you want to upgrade Elements, you'll have to find a pretty recent version so that it will support D300. Sorry but I'm not an Elements user. It *may* have been Camera Raw v4.1 that first supported the D300

Both Element 6 or 7 support D300 NEF files directly, no need for DNG. It uses Camera Raw.

Hi.
Do you know that for a fact?, you have them, and put Nikon D300 raw-directly into them ? My elements 5, will not take/support them. Iam going to purchase elements 7, if it will positively do it.
Thanks
Harry

from this page.....

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3941

The 4.5 plug-in does list the D300 so if you have Elements v5 (Win), just download
the CameraRaw plugin

The Camera Raw 4.5 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS3, versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 4.01 for Macintosh or Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Windows, or versions of Premiere Elements earlier than 3.0.

I use Elements 6 with my D300 all the time. Elements 7 also supports it. Elements calls up Camera Raw when you open a NEF file. But before buying an upgrade download the latest version of Camera Raw that is compatible with your Elements 5. That would be Camera Raw 4.5 and follow the installation instructions for Elements. Raw 4.5 supports the D300. No need to upgrade Elements, just upgrade your version of Raw for free (must be Raw 4.5, later versions are only compatible with Elements 6 or 7)

Edit: looks like howardm4 beat me to it
