I could care less about mac or PC but why the hell would you invest $5k into a SONY VAIO.

Those are the worst laptop computers in the world EVER. I had 1 of them and NEVER EVER again.

1. That 5K is A$. Or about 3.5K US.
2. I paid 3.5K Aus. That's about 2K USD.
3. The Sony has more to it and in Aus is 1K cheaper than the equivalent Macbook Pro.
4. If you want 100% Adobe RGB you only have a choice between this and.... nothing.
5. I've owned lots of "laptops" of all brands including HP, Mac etc and Sony's. I've noticed exactly NIL difference in reliability between them.
6. At 18.4" "laptop" is not the description I'd use.
7. This is the best screen I've ever seen short of my Eizo monitor. The quality is just stagggaring. And its faaaaaast. Even the Lenovo w700 can't get close to the quality of this display and it's nearly double the Sony.

Another great genralisation based on a complete lack of factual information and a whole bunch of personal opinion.

Wasn't this thread about a hilarious video? Ridiculous argument here. Judging from the work of people on both sides of the aisle, I can't say that I think that either makes you a better photographer (though if your computer is taking all your time, it could make you worse...). FWIW, I run PC because it's cheaper to build a budget PC (and reuse certain parts) than it is to buy a Mac. Like everyone else, I use what works for me (my budget, knowledge, interests).

I like the mac operating system better than windows, but not enough to pay 40% more. If you are buying a desktop computer, pc takes alot more effort due to drivers, antivirus, etc. If you are buying a laptop, it is not so much effort.

I bought an HP dv7-1025nr laptop similar to a Mac Book Pro for $1,100. It has a 17" screen that is 1900x1200 res, 4g of ram, 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, nvidea 9600gt video card, 320gb of hard drive space, and it is 64-bit operating system. Although Vista has many issues on their Home Edition, Vista Professional is a good operating system. After I loaded the eye one and a free version of AVG antivirus, I was good to go.

To each their own.

windows is a dog of a system that a professional can still use but full of glitches, never ending pop ups and a magnet for viruses. Just a headache by comparison.

I'll use whatever works the best and costs me the least. Been using Vista Ultimate for the past 1.5 - 2 years, not ONE single problem . . . no pop ups, no viruses, no crashes. Most of the problems lie with the user . . . people who don't know how to keep their computer running optimally.

I built my system, by the way, and it cost me $550 . . . a comparable mac at the time would've been about $1,900. Pretty absurd!

Well in my opinion the double stuff oreo's are great but the mint double stuffed oreo's are the best! Nothing beats them!

Seriously guys, this is the silliest thread that has been on here in a very long time. Is the computer in front of YOUR face the one that you like? What else matters? I like mac but I don't give a $#!% what you like. It's called personal preference.

LET IT GO!!

But if they can't argue over which computer system is better, what the heck are they supposed to talk about on this Wedding Photography forum??

Personally, I like oatmeal cookies with just a few chocolate chips thrown in for good measure.

You should check out both solutions and see what fits your life not what people say. I like the Mac products because their people support their product better then the PC vendors do. I use a PC because it has the flexibility of being more upgradeable. Mac's are always is one step behind in hardware and software because a lot more people use PC's. I have always like the support when I when my IPOD malfunctions. I can always gotten great support from the genius bar every time I have visited the apple store. The software on MACS are pretty awesome but are limited only the great ones only. If you like a particular program that you find in the MAC store most likely you will have to buy a MAC. The exception would be Photoshop, Word, etc. So being a photographer you will not feel left out if you choose either one. They have great products so its not a hype its just a personal preference and experience of the individual. Just remember if you are hoping to have the lastest powerhouse and equipment you will have to go will a PC. Some might agrue that they have a Duo Quad Core Tower, you will never be able to use both processors entirely (there is no program that can run eight cores at once right now) and the price for the Tower is very expensive even for those who can afford it. My recommendation is go to the Apple Store and bring your questions. Of course you can stay there all day if needed and then borrow someones laptop with windows and try it out as well. Good Luck on finding what you like. You will not go wrong with either one and if you need help FM forum is here for you.
