Anyway to use a 16GB SDHC card in the 1D Mark III?
I searched the posts here, but did not see anything related to this error.
Just says can't format, replace card, etc. Installing the same brand 8GB SDHC works fine. Checking off Low Level Format errors right away, not checking low level format takes a long time til it errors out. Won't see 16GB SDHC even if I format it 1st in a PC card reader. Same 16GB card works fine in my XSi without issues.
I've been using a couple of Transcend 16 gb SDHC cards in two different Mark IIIs for months with no problems. It should work. Have you tried to format on the computer first, then put it in the camera? That once solved a similar problem with a new card for me.
Edit - Just noticed you said the camera doesn't recognize the card when formatted in the reader, either. So much for my suggestion.
Ah, dang. So it's brand specific? The ones I have are "A Data" brand, and they work in my friend's 1Ds Mark III (note he has the 21.1 MP one) and they work in my XSi. So seems odd not in the 1D Mark III (10.1 MP).

No it's not brand specific as you wrote. They also work in your camera. If it doesn't work, either the card or your camera has a fault

Yikes. Hope it's not the camera. I just got it from B&H a few days ago. The free over-night shipping pushed me over the edge.
I was trying to decide on a 5D Mark II or a 1D Mark III. Always wanted a 1 series, and the 1Ds is just a bit too much money.

Yes you can format the card in your camera. I always do that
I just tried another test. I formatted it in a different card reader on my PC, put it in the 1D Mark III and it worked. OK, a work-around. I tried to format it in the camera with low level checked, it said can't format, replace card (!) Ok, re-formated it in the SanDisk PC card reader again, put in camera, sees it. Tried to format it in camer with low level UN checked, it works.
Ok, so as long as I format the card in the SanDisk PC card reader first, and just re-format it in the camera without low level, it works. Low level checked makes the card un-readable til re-formated in the PC card reader. Strange.
Another update: Using another brand worked. Strange. It will even low level format it. Guess that is good, at least. Just stuck with two "bad" 16GB cards.
