I just downloaded a trial of CS4 ... considering an upgrade... BUT my brush is doing some strange things. As long as the brush is small in diameter it is in the regular form of "circle" but when I enlarge the brush the only image showing on my picture is a small arc ... about a 1/5th of the circle. What is going on? I have an abundance of RAM and video card memory. I would appreciate help from any of the Photoshop gurus out there.
I was having the same problem when LR 2.0 came out and read where others were having the problem. After making adjustments on my video card the problem went away. The main adjustments were to have the video card set for performance instead of quality and have it set for single display. Here is one of the links:
Both my Vista Ultimate laptop and XP Pro desktop have nVidia cards. When CS4 came out every now and then the brush tool would do it again, so I made a few further performance tweaks and CS4 has been fine since.
There was another link that I had seen but do not have it, it had gone into it a bit more.
Hope this helps,
Gil
Hmm, I have no idea. I open 4 new files images at 5000x3500 (to stress the card/PS limits), select any number of non-round single and multiple frame brushes, size them from 50 pixels to 1000 pixels and then draw around with them.
No problems.
Did you check the Adobe site?
Can you make a screenshot?
Adobe does not want to help me with the trial program CS4 even though I am a registered owner of CS3... kinda crappy IMHO !!! I did get CS4 to display the full circle brush but only after I pushed resolution to the max and now my fonts and desktop icons require a microscope to read. The brush thing does not happen on CS3, so I have to think it is a memory display issue. Worked enough on it for now... going to bed. Anyone got any ideas?
Download latest NVIDIA (if you have an Nvidia based graphics card) drivers at nvidia.com. After downloading the latest drivers the brush starting working fine on my CS4 installation.
Good luck,
Bill.
PS ... also there is a list of video cards that CS4 supports on the Adobe site.
UCSB has a good suggestion but that sucks that they won't support the trial version. Kinda shooting themselves in the foot with that one. I can understand the lamer questions like "how do I use PS to draw" or something but bugged operation and specific intelligent inquiry should get a reply. If you can't get proper execution why on Earth would you buy it? Silly Adobe!
Well, try one of the official forums then if UCSB's idea doesn't do it. Those PS forums are full of PS freaks that make a hobby out of knowing all that sorta stuff.
Well I am back at it... I did download an updated driver from Nvidia but alas NO SOLUTION. I have adjusted ever tweek that I can find. Oh well. Still open to ideas.
Thanks Gil, I think I have been to this site... feel like I have been around the world of downloads and issue blogs, I have downloaded another Nvidia driver but still with no results. I will trip on over to the above site to see if I indeed have been there.
Yeah, call adobe. You paid for it right? They have a great support system and would definitely be able to solve this problem quickly. I had a similar problem and reinstalled the program and brushes work fine now.
Adobe are studiously ignoring the problem with their new Open GL system blaming the video card manufacturers eventhough it is their fault for the way they wrote the system, CS3 didn't have any problems with the same cards. Wouldn't count on those 'supported' cards not having issues either. On their support forums last time I read their people were saying they couldn't replicate the issue period eventhough many people have the issue. Easiest thing is just to switch off Open GL in the preferences. Suddenly redrawing stops being jerky, the brush tool works again, etc.
OK, I think I have the answer for you! I worked with both nVidia & Adobe for a week and a half and they had me try everything. That is, until one guy at Adobe suggested I remove (uninstall all of my video drivers) and then reload the Nvida video drivers from scratch. Lo & behold......it worked.
So, when you uninstall video drivers things look funky and I had to do a couple of re-starts, etc. But after all that I went to nVidia's site and let it find the right driver to install. Hope it works for you too!
Yea... call Adobe, I paid for CS3 and it works fine on CS3 but I am in a trial mode for CS4 and they won't help me. They can't guarantee a fix even if I upgrade and buy the bleeping thing. Kinda crappy, in my opinion! It appears a lot of people on DeviantART is having the same issue.
