As you likely know, we've been working on our next generation Photographic Workflow application Bibble 5 for a while, and have stated that we would make it available in Q4 2008. With 2008 quickly drawing to a close and the holiday season now upon us, it has become apparent that we will not be able to live up to that goal.
As such, we will not be releasing Bibble 5 this year. We know this information will disappoint many of you. Please understand it disappoints us a great deal as well. Bibble 5 is a very important product for us, and one of our most important commitments to you is to make sure it is of the highest quality when it is released. Bibble 5 is a revolutionary product in a lot of ways and includes many capabilities not seen before in a program of its type. As we’ve come down to the wire, we’ve run into a few unexpected problems which has cost us a little time. Please know that all of us here at the Labs are working our tails off in order to get Bibble 5 into your hands as quickly as possible.
So, where do we go from here? We’ve heard your feedback over the previous few months, and one thing we hear loud and clear is your desire for us to share more information about what is going on with Bibble 5’s development. To that end, we will endeavor to answer as many questions and to provide as much detail as we can about what Bibble 5 will include. We will post additional videos showing the editing tools, asset management framework and other capabilities of B5, and we will commit to continuing to listen to your feedback and to completing Bibble 5 in as rapid a time frame as possible, without choosing schedule over quality.
We will also commit to deliver a public preview version of Bibble 5 no later than the end of January 2009.
While we know many of you will be upset with this news, we also know how excited you will be when you can actually use B5. As those of you who have seen it in action know, Bibble 5 raises the bar in just about every aspect of photo workflow software and will provide many new possibilities for improved creativity and productivity in your workflow. We know this delay will cause some of you to move on, but for those of you who stick around, we are confident that you will agree that the wait was well worth it.

Truth be told, at this point, I don't care if they ever release this vaporware. I went from excitement/anticipation, to impatience, to indifference, to disdain. Been waiting since May '07. Too many other great choices available.
Wonder why so many software companies seem to feel they must add more "features" all the time. It would seem that they could get along better is they just added the handling for the 50D and 5D2 raw files to the existing version 4. Being about the only PP program that runs on Linux and W2k gives Bibble a leg up. But if they don't get something out really soon, ......
So why are they messing around? Just modularize the handling of camera specific raw files handling and get on with it. And yes we did have a long discussion about raw and modular approaches and dng in another thread.
The point is that we don't need another CS4 fiasco that just about needs a supercomputer in order to run. Just maybe Bibble is listening.
The very least they could do, as Rodney mentions, is provide support with Bibble Pro 4.xx for the newest bodies; 50D, 5D2, 90D, etc. I've had my 50D for 3+ months, and now I'm expected to wait until the end of January, which will inevitably drag on for longer than that? Bibble's support has always been second-rate, and has slipped to bottom-rung shareware levels. Not likely I'll return as a Bibble Pro user, as I've spent the last several months working with LR2, and been very pleased with the results.
Yeah, I was a convert, till I got my d90. Then I went back to LR. KNow they are busting their ass to get this out the door.....but alot of stuff has come out in recent months. I am a hobbyist and didn't dig the the backlog of files, can't imagine what the people who do this for a living are going through.
Now I am looking at just vm'ing a M$ client on the linux box to run capture nx or LR for when I am from the windows tower and on the linux laptop. Would I like to come back to bibble? Sure. Will I....this 5 fiasco is making the magic eight ball come up saying future is unknown. Been a few months now, support for the d90 and d700 and the new canon gear not too much to ask.
Now they know 5 is a pipe dream anytime soon, maybe they can hook up the current owners as a bene. This lack of support keeps up, may not have the user base they used to have. Since the price is approaching Nikon and Adobe, I can't justify telling peoplel to use this with its current support to be honest. VMware server is free, install a windows OS you already have and run LR or capture for the Nikon crowd. They at least update camera and lens support fairly quickly at damn near the same price.
Truth be told, LR is Bibble 5. [figuratively writing..I realize the RAW SHOOTER component] I've used Bibble for years processing my Kodak SLRn files. Noise Ninja was a nice addition to the program. When LR was first introduced, I could see some of the foundation established by Bibble [in the develop/library modules]. LR simply put it all in a great interface. If Bibble has a flaw, it is the absolutely quirky interface.
I like Bibble. It is certainly one of the fastest processors I've used. But, since adopting LR and establishing a workflow around it...Bibble 5 will have to be something.
Thankfully, it is a free upgrade. I'll await it's arrival. Once I read the upgrade is purchase only...I'll remove my name from their e-mail list. No offense Eric.
