How do you make an external eSATA HD dock HOTSWAPABLE?
Actually I have to restart my computer when I need to use my HD Dock

You should not need to re-boot your computer.....

(I'm using the Thermaltake BlacX)

Power button in back....have you tried powering down before removing the HD; swapping drives, and then hit the power button ont he dock back on?

Computer should simply recognize "new" swapped out drives.....

Your SATA card needs to support hot swapping. Not all do.

To swap the drive, I unmount the drive in the usual fashion, turn the drive's power off, then physically swap the drive.

It all depends upon the SATA controller and it's driver. If you have an Intel SATA controller, and your BIOS supports AHCI, you should be all set (assuming that you enabled AHCI). There is a freeware driver that you can try that may enable the hot-swap feature if it doesn't currently exist. You'll find it at: http://mysite.verizon.net/kaakoon/hotswap/index_enu.htm

I don't have any eSATA devices, so I have no experience with the above referenced software. Use at your own risk.

If you're running windows, sometimes it's best to open the "device manager" and highlight "disk drives". Right click and tell it to "scan for new hardware". This usually does the trick.

For mac, I don't know . . .
