Mine didn't squeek when I squeezed it, it did yell "ouch", though.

Consider that an improvement.

In comparison the original 5D is just crude; if squeezed it simply tells me to go f*** myself!

Can't write down what the old 20D does, I might get banned by Fred...

Ouch indeed

I face the same Body problem as razvanv with my 5D II.

2. Sometimes when I press the play button the image appear on the screen for a fraction of a second and disappear.

This also sometimes happens to the Menu button.

This happens quite frequently - it seems that the camera was busy doing something (I can hear it doing something), and I have to patiently wait for 3-5 seconds for the camera to finish doing its things (i.e. no more sound), before the buttons will work again.

Stop pressing the depth of field preview, and that won't happen.

I've squeezed my MKII six ways from Sunday at just about every imaginable spot and it has no squeaks. Must have been a small batch that got through with the problem?

maybe, in the end it doesn't matter, but it does make it feel flimsy in the hand compared to even my 20D nevermind 50D (or a 1 series)
mine is pretty creaky/squeaky/flexible

OTOH i have yet to see any vertical banding yet on mine and i'd rather have a little squeak than vertical banding!

it squeaks when I grip teh camera in normal fashion
creaking noise seems to be from the CF card door meeting the body (although the edge of the bottom of the cam near battery door flexes a bit too)

edit: i noticed my old 20D has some flex in those spots too but doesn't squeak and feels a bit more solid near the CF door and my 40D50D were squeak free and solid.

but as i said i'd rather have the creaky the body than the black dots at ISO100 and vertical banding that some complain about

Everybody's 5D II squeaks around the compact flash/battery cover area. Those who say theirs doesn't just aren't "doing it right" so to speak. My 5D made the noise, as does my 5D II. I asked my friend with a 5D if his squeaked, and he gave me an emphatic NO. However, when we got together a few nights ago, I showed him and he looked like "Oh I guess I never noticed." So, anyway, it's a design "flaw" you might say, that carried over from the first 5D.

On my 5Ds I stuck small pieces of sticky-back felt pads inside the doors. On the 5D2, the new weather-sealed design of the door makes this harder to do, as there is no straightforward place to put the felt. But, I found a spot that seems to at least quiet this down.

With the BG-E6 mounted, this is minimized. This is because the palm can press against the solid surface of the grip which avoids putting pressure on the CF door.

Is this a "flaw"? Consider it this way: you could get the same image quality without the squeak in a 1DsIII for just $4K more...

Please explain how you make your original 5D squeak, at least one that makes sense and doesn't demand unnatural handling. Not going to register to watch that video the OP linked.

I've got a relatively early 5D and it feels rock solid, that's enough for me, but I am curious. Also the original 5D is as solid as the 20D. The 40D I held was in some areas less well made (battery door cover) than the older 20D, so not everything new is better. Now the 20D and 5D are about equal in build, the 5D being a little bigger heavier, and even a little more solid because it doesn't have a pop up flash.

Can't speak for the 5D2.

I just got my 5DII yesterday. No squeek problem, but the AF will not lock on anything. I tried several different lenses and all AF modes. The camera just hunts and hunts but does not lock onto anything. I even cleamed the camera and lens contacts but, alas, no focus lock. Pictures are beautiful in MF mode!

I bought it from Best Buy (when they had the 5% off sale) and they have scheduled to ship a new one once it is not back-ordered.

Anyone else have this issue?

Mine squeaks too. The CF cover doesn't seem to fit totally flush. Not a biggy though. I'll slide by Canon Canada when there are more product in this fair Dominion.

I can't imagine what that "normal fashion" must be. When I hold the camera, my fingers are wrapped around the grip and the ball of my thumb is on the back of the camera near the AF-ON button. The palm of my hand barely brushes any part of the CF door--in fact, there is space between the palm of my hand and the CF door. All pressure is between the grip and the back, and that's solid magnesium bolted to solid magnesium--there is zero pressure against the door.

Maybe this is a problem for people with very small hands.

sorry, I just reposted the video in my blog where you won't need to register to view it. you'll see that all he's doing is pinching it with two fingers and he's creaking really loud: http://weblog.xanga.com/SecondPrint/688667771/item.html

Sorry I don't mean to discount any issues you may be having with your very expensive machines, but I just went to squeeze my 40D and lo and behold it also "squeeks" if I push it really hard. I started laughing as I've never noticed this in 30,000 exposures though until I saw this thread

I think it's just because the CF door is plastic and there's always going to be some looseness. But when I get my 5D2 I'll be checking just incase to make sure it's not any worse than the 40D and about to fall off or anything

I don't need to squeeze hard, I just hold the camera, I can feel slight movement as I press the shutter button and there is a slightly audible noise. It's noticeable because my 20D's CF bay door is rock solid. It doesn't feel like it will fall off, it just doesn't fit flush.

To those who don't have the problem, good-oh.
To those who do have the issue, I believe we have a right to expect the CF bay door to fit properly.
To those who think that we shouldn't air this problem, take a pill. This a gear forum and we are discussing gear matters.

The 5D2 is still the best camera I have ever had and the CF bay door issue doesn't stop me from taking great pictures. It does mean however, that I will have to take a drive to Mississauga (Canon Canada) to get it sorted.

After watching that video and if you haven`t added any sound effects( I`m sure you haven`t) I can understand why you are upset, if mine was like that then I would return it. I think that maybe some packing has been left out.

I just tested mine and it is so rock solid you wouldn`t believe it. Not a single groan at all from anywhere.

As I said before, are there numerous places where these are made?? I`m in the UK and although we had to wait longer than the States for our cameras it would appear that we are squeek, black dot and banding free.

Dave

Wow that is bad. Sorry I didn't watch the video until now (pity me and my slow internet connection) but that is horrible...yeah sounds like some plate or joint is not in properly, or a section has fallen out

Anyway Mike (and others) I hope you get yours sorted out. I'm collecting mine tomorrow and will be sure to check this out

+1

My MkI had a slight squeak from new but I still love it after 3 years of faultless service.

I collected my new MkII last night. It feels slightly more solid than the MkI and definitely no squeaks. I haven't had a chance to use it beyond a few test shots around the house but already feel it will deserve the #1 position in my kit.
