My 5D is fine, but the 5DMkII creaks and is irritating. Even with electrical tape and velcro its still a bit creaky with large lenses like the 70-200 IS or 24-70, so will try experimenting again. I contacted Canon and they will fix it, but I'll wait 6 months to see what else needs to be done, such as dust in the VF, before sending it in.
I don't think asking for a solid body is too much.

as you can hear every motion the hand makes it is clear that the mic is amplifying the effect. But granted it is irritating. OTOH, if you move your hands on a regular camcorder you hear amplified noise as well...
This is because air is mostly vacuum, and therefore quite a bad transmitter of sound. Sound travels far far more quickly and penetratingly through liquids and especially solids than through gases. Anything in solid contact with the microphone will sound much louder than noise mediated through air. In space, the camera will ONLY record squeaks, rustling hands, and the photographer's heartbeat. It's practically impossible to make microphones which don't behave like this. Use tape or grease to stop the squeaking.
No noise on mine. Built like a rock. If it were mine, I would have sent it back to the merchant ASAP, if not sooner. Send it back to Canon and complain very loudly. Maybe you'll get some preferential treatment.
I didn't know Canon offered a Mickey Mouse version of the 5D MKII complete with sound effects. Oh I forgot Disney's Official camera starts with an N and ends with a N.
I have 3 5D MKIIs and none of them have any unexplained issues at this point. Okay one is on its way back from Lifepixel and I understand that the sensor filter will have a clear color to it now (converted to full spectrum).
Mine started off rock solid but after a few days of use swapping cards in and out the CF card door is now creaking when holding the camera, palm of hand pushing against the door. Hoping the grip when it arrives will alleviate some of the noise as the pressure will be put else where.
Comparing it to a 400d I'm amazed at how sturdy (and noise free) the 400d is and a little surprised at how 'seemingly' flimsy the 5d mk2 (I know it's not).
Either way I'm happy with the camera and will live with it unless canon see it as an issue
