Can you imagine what I had to go through to take them? Mind you, I had about 10 bloody maries by the time I got to DJ booth..hehehe...
Picture is not of me, but a visiting DJ from Tokyo. Him and his "body guards"...hahaha
Hehe... Kinda puts a new spin on the term body guard.
I'm just noticing that that's at Radix. I haven't been there in years. I think the last time was when I played there. Not DJ tho... Guitar. It was an "All Beatles Night" - 4-piece band. I had fun.

I suggest you try the Casio Exilim EX-F1. Shoots 60 frames/sec.
Thanks Matuka.
Yeah that new Casio looks like just a whole bunch of fun! The preproduction model could do flash at that 60fps too! Sweeet! The specs I read after all the shows were done (the reviews) seem either to omit a few features and specs or they cut a few out for the production model. I'm in between "real" cameras and if I don't get one of the new video capable models from Nikon or Canon I'll probably get the Casio along side. I'd like to see an intelligent review of it's lens though.

Wow! I am sure you had a blast!
I didn't know they did live bands there. Atm it is just a dance club, as far as I know.
Are you still playing or retired?

They do live about once or twice a year since they opened and until about 4 or 5 years ago - after that I dunno. I think they're about 8 or 10 years old or something close to that.
I still play. I don't usually play rock mostly tho - too simplistic - I like to listen to it tho. Here's a few recordings I did ummm, about 18 months ago I guess when I just got my MacPro and was goofing off in the free GarageBand that comes with it. It's just a $15 lapel mic clipped onto the rim of the sound hole so it kinda sucks. I used the guitar effectors in GB to try and fill it out a bit.

I don't usually play on stage or anything. I did in college but that was a billion years ago. It's just a hobby to entertain myself. ...Show more →
That figures. One of the most popular clubs in Nagoya as far as I know. Did you have dealings with Keiko (or perhaps she is new..)
I often find that doing things as a hobby just for one's own pleasure produces best results. Takes away that subconciuos pressure - "is it good enough?"...

I'm terrible with names and I can't even recall anyone's face from Radix. Some friends I used to jam with (livingroom jams) put together the gig and invited me to sit in with them making it 4 people.
Nobu the porsche mechanic (now Nobu the homeless) is the guy who set it up. He plays lead. I stopped playing with them when they started offering me the crystal meth - that s**t will kill ya! I'm weak against party materials so I just disappeared.

Yikes...and all that in a country where you can get done for weed! Well, Sweden is not particularly liberal in that sense either. My neighbour got 2 years behind bars for few grams of brown stuff...
There are lot of people jaming on the streets at night. I wish my photo technique was good enough to take night street shots (and camera didn't generate hips of noise at ISO800..ehehe)
p.3 #11 · The People of Osu In Nagoya Japan (231-Image Collage)
Brown stuff? Hash or the Opium stuff? Anyway, yeah there's lots and lots of drugs in Japan. Most of it brought in by either Koreans (boat drop-offs) or Iraqis. I used to talk to a lot of Iraqis and they all said they're doing it on purpose to eradicate "western" culture and the Japanese economic power. Very strange huh? I dunno who's indoctrinating them but I've heard that from many totally unconnected dealers over the years - until they all went underground and stopped "hanging out" in central park. They're interesting people to talk to. A little confused but interesting.
Night photography would be interesting. Set up some (3 to 7) cheap $10 used flash units on optical slaves in the trees, bushes, telephone posts, whatever and camp out in a location for 10 or 20 shots at a time. If it's not a very crowded street I've noticed that you can get people to pause and pose by shining a laser pointer on the sidewalk in front of them as they walk.
p.3 #12 · The People of Osu In Nagoya Japan (231-Image Collage)
That was hash. Frtunately for him.
Another one got done for 5000 ecstasy and about 500 acid...was even on MTV europe. That guy was munching tons of stuff and on one occasion was soo high he took a crap in the middle of the crowded dance floor at a club..erm..
Speaking of Iraqis, I had dealings with quite a few in Sweden. There are many decent hard woring people, but there are certain individuals as you mentioned.
I find it amusing they are trying to eradicate "Sex, Drugs and Rock'n Roll" culture using drugs. But, hey..whatever floats their boat.
Was walking around Nagoya yesterday, but didn't get many good shots. I was bored and buggered off at around 8. Walking around Sakae, there night life doesn't really kick in until 8-9 I suppose. Lots of gyaru, but I didn't want to be called "sekuhara oyaji" - 50mm 1.4 I was sporting has to get a bit "in a face" of a subject...
p.3 #13 · The People of Osu In Nagoya Japan (231-Image Collage)
Yep, around 70~200 or maybe 250mm is about right for the streets here and usually on the long side of that. At least for my style. 50mm 1.4 sounds great for the underground tho!
But do remember one thing... about 60% of the gals you're likely to run into in the Sake area after business hours think that sekuhara is a good thing and are hoping for it. That's what they're there for mostly.
p.3 #14 · The People of Osu In Nagoya Japan (231-Image Collage)
Lol...as long as you pay for it I suppose. Called into Kyaba Kura, but a bit of money waste atm. Suppose I can do when I get a job.
Met up with a great bunch of underground people at the clubs. Can be some great portraits. 50mil will do nicely for that. Especially during those early morning hours you go for cheap, greasy food after all night drinking..hehe.
On the street zoom to approx. 200-300mm is essential, I agree. I tried my Sigma 150mm and 135mm Tak primes on few occasions, but I neet to switch lenses few times and that is a major inconvenience...
p.3 #15 · The People of Osu In Nagoya Japan (231-Image Collage)
Cabaret Club or Kyaba-kura キャバクラ in Japanese-english, is indeed a waste of time and money if you're looking for "real" personal interaction. OTOH, if you're interested in giving your money to a yakuza boss and ogling girls who's job it is to allow it... then...
I meant more like that way over 50% of the girls on the street in sake (or other "down-town" areas) after umm, about 6 or 7 pm are there for the purpose of being hunted.
I hear you about the primes! If primes I think you could get into a position, prefocus, and shoot as interesting people enter into frame. That's kinda how some fashion photographers work with catwalks. Set up everything 1st and let the girl walk into frame, follow a bit, and then pick up the second camera with a wider or longer lens and have a second go if needed. That basic idea might work good for primes on the street too.
p.3 #17 · The People of Osu In Nagoya Japan (231-Image Collage)
Haha, good description. Suppose if colleagues are going, it is rather boring to sit outside and wait for them to finish, so in that case why not. Wife was telling me that some time before in Japan older colleagues used to take younger ones or new starters to soap or kyaba kura and pay for them. Not sure it's going on today, but it's something I can quickly get accustomed to...hehe
But every time I catch up with few girls or pass them, they have eyes of the startled deers. Must be my appearance - I look very much like Kotooshu both face and sizewise, although since I came here I dropped almost 2 jeans sizes...
Just looking forward to getting an actual job so I can get new zoom lenses for walkarounds...
Really? Hehehe, my neighbor says I look like him too. But I don't really think so. A little maybe. I looked the spitting image of Liam Neeson in costume as Qui-Gon Jinn (Starwars) about 10 or 15 years ago. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a7/Qui_gon_jinn_from_movie.jpg
Now I don't really look like anyone famous or recognizable that I can think of. Maybe one of the bugs in the Macro section?

Lol, classic. I think idea for the next haloween is given then! Hm...receding hair of mine requires a wig though in that case.
Got assaulted few times by older ladies who wanted to take snaps with me and started shaking hands. Was around time of Nagoya basho. Had to explain that I wasn't him..
