There's no doubt that the 1Ds MKIII will see the biggest fall in price when the 5D MKII hits the streets, it's a shame, but as we all know digital SLR's are NOT investments I might dip my toes in when i see 1Ds MKIII's at £2500 which I think will happen sooner rather than later, I have 2 5D MKII's on order at Amazon.com [shipping to my friend in AZ] but at today's exchange rate of $1.63 to the £ [ and falling ] I might get a 5D MKII here in the UK instead...............I had a 1D MKIII which was problematic with focuisng from the start, so I'm reluctant again to get a 1Ds MKIII although I could change my mind at the right price Good luck with the sale.

Thats debateable.
This looks like a nice price for a 1Ds MarkIII.
While we all know that price shifts do occur we are also looking at 2 similar yet different markets. Pro Vs Prosumer. There are still plenty of attributes that keep the 1Ds MKIII on top of the 5DII.

Oh, I agree, the pro series bodies are awesome pieces of kit for sure, but you just know that when that 5D MKII hits town, well ....................
Autofocus, weatherproofing, ruggedness, shutter life, reliability . . . you're giving up a lot to go for the 5D, though the price is attractive. That goes without saying. Nothing maintains its value a year later. What do you think will happen to the 5D MkII this time next year? Mark my words it will be in the sub $2k price range (US dollars) by September of next year...down from $2700.
The 1D III had focusing issues that were resolved within a few months. That's the risk a lot of people took by jumping on the boat first without looking for leaks. Give it time and let the leaks fix themselves. I waited on the 1Ds III till this past July and have loved it ever since...No "focus issues" at all.
Personally, I wouldn't sink my money into the 5D II till April or May. Let the public and Canon suffer through the growing pains. Come April / May, you can reap all the rewards with the latest and greatest. Of course, that's just been my experience with the latest and greatest. Maybe the 5D will be different.
