Hi
Question from an photo beginner. How is the AF speed compered between D700 and 5D2?
If you for example take a picture of an running fotball player?
My need is to make photoprint in a3 format, whith hopfully chrystal cleer resolution.
In this thred many says there are dissipointed for 5D2 AF. Does this mean this slow and not focus accurate for 21M, or just missing numers of AF point?

ok, thought you meant mpeg2 since when people say mpeg for video format that is mostly what they mean

Question: The weather resistance of the new 5D is listed as "10 mm rain in 3 minutes". What does this mean?

More than enough rain protection unless you didn't pay for your camera or don't have a weather-sealed lens attached to it.

This sounds like more than adequate weather sealing for those instances where you are caught shooting in less than ideal photographic circumstances. Those of us that do shoot in rain, weather-sealed gear or not, usually have the foresight to keep their equipment dry by all others means before your gear gets wet. But what the 5D Mk II has will give you plenty of time to get out of the rain or seek better camera protection. This degree of protection is far better than the 5D provided, ie none.

How it compares, in real terms, to the Nikon equivalent hasn't been proven yet obviously.

The low light IQ in the video is spectacular! That combined with the still IQ I've seen so far makes it a first buy for me. Wow, serious cinematography without heavy cameras (Mitchells), no film, no processing, and a still cam that beats just about anything I've seen so far IQ wise. In addition the instant switch from video mode to still mode and back again using the shutter button is going to be more useful than one might think. Just get several 32GB cards and be prepared for some serious PP.

Ignore instructions below and refer to my next post...
BTW, for those of you who might be having problems viewing the video due to server or bandwidth problems, just download it from this link (right click and select save link as) http://downloads.canon.com/CDLC/Reverie_Final_Cut2_midres.m4v

Hmm.. interesting I'm now getting a 'permission denied' error also. Perhaps they caught on...

OK, if your running FireFox try this:

Go to: http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=GetArticleAct&articleID=2086

Right click on a blank part of the page and select 'View Page Info'

Now select the 'Media' tab and look for:
http://downloads.canon.com/CDLC/Reverie_Final_Cut2_midres.m4v

It's now grayed out, but select it anyway and click the 'Save As' button.

This should start the download.

I guess nobody in here can tell you his/her personal experience. The camera was announced 6 days ago. Its not available before november, I would assume.

Cheers, that worked fine, it weighs in at just under 90Mb.

Thanks so much, now I can watch the whole thing without the pauses.
This is truly amazing! Now he is setting too high a bar for us commoners When I get my 5D2 and start taking video, I am going to say, hey it is not even close to what Vincent did.

As much as I'm blown away by the quality of the 5D MKII's video capabilities, that Vincent Laforet video is total crap. It's just embarrassingly awful. But worth watching for the video quality, if nothing else. (Trust me. Nothing else. And I love Moby)

Can anyone tell if he was using lights for those street scenes?

I think he must have been, but if that's just ambient light, then holy cow...

He did that over a weekend! I think this is very well done.

I think he mentioned he used one modelling lamp for the shoot, but stuck almost exclusively to ambient.

"I did shoot it w/ one light source - 1 Pro 7B pack (a still camera battery pack strobe - w no strobe being used - just the “modeling” light) with either a beauty dish or head w/ reflector - or 1 LED light source for the helo and car scenes… I did mention that in the post… those lights were powered all the way down to not exceed the ambient light though (the idea was not to “flood” the natural light out as we’re so used to doing… instead it was to add a little touch of more carefully angled light… to the existing ambient light) - so we’re talking really LOW LIGHT - such a sodium-vapor lights in Brooklyn - you just normally CAN’T SHOOT in that light period… mostly because of the horrible color cast.. this camera did.

It looks like lighting was used in a few places, ie to light Jimmy Reed's face in the car scenes, helicopter, etc, but all of the background including close objects appears to be lit by ambient light, certainly the far objects were.

The 5DII will be a serious tool for cinematographers IMO. I'll bet that every studio that has several 'RED One 4ks' in house will also have a least a few 5DIIs to use for low light work (the RED One is ISO 320 if I remember correctly).

And hey, you get a world class DSLR (IQ wise) as a bonus...

OK, I'm impressed!

I'm still not buying the bloody thing, (waiting for the next version, or the mythical 3D) but I am defintely impressed. The next few years are going to be REALLY exciting.

I agree that the video itself was a little goofy, but I firmly believe that this level of video quality in a sub $3000 package is completely game changing. The next few years will be pretty amazing to say the least.

Well, THAT we don't actually know yet. I certainly hope so, but we haven't seen direct comparisons of the 5DII and 5D in good light, at ISO 100.

I know I'm not the only one slightly concerned (OK, mildly interested) about 21 mp and still no gapless photosites. (of course, only compared to the wonderful 5D MK I)

Things could be just swell in 5DII land, but don't count yer chickens just yet .....
