I don't need nor do I want direct print, video, or live view. I'm looking for a powerful light weight sports car not a bloated Cadilac.

I like the thought of taking screen shots from the video where I can catch my moving subject in just the right pose, smile, composition, or light and pick the one I like.

Some of you are talking about something you have never viewed yet... so before you bad mouth it check this link, and them you have the right to say what you feel...

It's a lot like voting in the election, don't vote no bitch!
I also think we are at the tip of the iceberg ... I'm thinking about combined stills and video as a presentation in Pro show gold..etc. instead of animation and 3D stuff in CS3.

This is the best thing that has happened to DSLRs since they started putting sensors in them! I love it! Gotta get one.

And I promised myself I was not going to get the new 5D II or whatever it would be called. Ha! They fooled me again. Wallet, suck in that belly.

Out of all the talk going on, not many dropped real world application thought on this camera. Ideal for the photo journalist in having to be able to capture two mediums of great quality with one camera system. Ideal for the average Joe with a family taking pictures of his kids, and quickly switches over to video mode for whatever motivates us to capture the moments of our family. What if you see bigfoot when out birding!?

What I do find negative is the people that talk smack about a camera that they have never used. People these days are spoiled and want everything, and when Canon doesn't give PRO AF in an already amazing and groundbreaking camera people threaten to switch to Nikon.

Fact remains, people these days don't like to read instruction manuals or learn their cameras in the way we used to in the old days. We choose the TOOLs that we use, it is up to us the user to learn to be smarter than this tool. To learn it inside and out, to be able to change settings on the fly and know what our tool can or can not do, and how to use it to the best of our ability. If you sit there and complain, the tool will just sit there and take it and will still be the same after all the venting.

If you don't like the camera, then move along, nothing to see here and whine about!

I guess that's fine if 1080P is good enough for your prints, but it is certainly not the intended purpose of this feature.

Not being a previous 5D owner, is the new BG-E6 batter holder/vertical grip absolutely necessary? How many batteries does the basic body itself hold?

Ðe body takes only one battery. the E6 takes two. As far as I know, one can only have batteries in the E6 while using it. That’s at least in the older grips.

It’s not absolutely necessary, but can be convenient.

When I had my 5D, I had an E4 for it. Pretty nice!

Still, now I have a 1D IIn, and if I’d want a 5D as my second body, I would for sure not have a grip for it.

Thanks aero.

Can this camera be connected directly to A/C?

You mean straight to electricity? If so, yes, but you have to get a special battery and stuff for that.

I suppose it's fair to say that we don't know what the elevated temparature parasitic effects are on the camera's AF performance. Similarly, signal thermal noise will be temperature dependant to an extent unknown.
However, I think it would be equally fair to say that connecting-ducting the camera to an Air Conditioning outlet should control/mitigate those potentially adverse effects.

And we all know and accept that fact. Canon is not going to make 1 camera that is everything to everybody. Need something better? Wait for the iteration of the 1D/1Ds bodies.

The truth is Canon eventually will make a camera that will work for more and more people..It's only a matter of time that SLR goes the way of the iPod. At this rate we will have double the highest resoultion in a few years and the best focus system currently available on entry level SLR's in the future and not the far off future either.

Manufacturer's are clearly being very careful not to give too much to fast and who can blame them.

Never said it was the intended purpose, but there are times when I say wow, that would be a great picture, and I can grab a frame.

From what I've been reading, the AF system is much more responsive. What really makes it apparent is pinoyphotography.org sports shots. Good to hear.

I'm rather excited for it. Take the traditional pictures then go into recording mode when I'm just walking around (say at a Family outing), jumping between the two. More creative freedom and tools at your disposal is always good.

Exactly - we really cannot blame them - as they are in business to make as much money as possible. I am actually disappointed that Canon didn't announce a hybrid 1D and 5D i.e. a 3D. If they should release this at Photokina, I will cancel my pre-order for the 5D II and get the 3D .... no need to even check the specs as, for sure, it will be better than the 5D II .... and without an integral battery grip. I will pay up to $4,000 for a 3D.

I have read so many posts about the 5DMII that I can't remember where I read it, but someone said that the demand for the 5DMII was going to be so high that a person might not be able to get one for a year.

I think it was Vincent LaForet in a reply to someones question on his blog post. It may well be hyperbole - he is clearly impressed and is planning to buy a lot of units himself - but I think he said he expects it to be on backorder for a year, which I would understand to mean you might find it difficult to walk into a shop and purchase one off the shelf rather than having to order one and wait a month or two for a batch to arrive from Japan. I don't think he meant that you'd have to wait a year if you order. However I do think he's correct that there will be a heavy early demand so with your January deadline it makes sense to pre-order if you know for sure its the camera you want. By the sound of what this top PJ is saying the price isn't likely to drop too quickly

He He He .... if this is true, and if Canon announces a 3D in February, I will be able to sell my 5D II to upgrade to the 3D .... and not have to suffer a big loss!

High ISO pics look soft. Experts is it because of mis-focus, NR or lens not being good enough?

My experience with previous Canon models (NOTE: I am no expert and I have never owned a full-frame camera, 1d bodies etc) says that RAW files are always sharper than Jpegs. Now in this case if DIGIC 4 is doing its magic, I would like to see how much noise is there in the RAW files and where is this softness coming from. I am pretty sure part of it is because of focus and part of it is because of NR.

ALSO
...Show more

from what I gather on all EOS the AF is done by the MAIN CPU not DIGIC, escept for the MkIIIs that have a separate 48MHz 32-bit RISC for AF (with a 40MHz 32-bit RISC for main CPU). So unless they gave it a new main CPU.... and seeing how they re-used most things (shutter/mirror).... but who knows?

they are way sharper at low ISO!
jpgs have crappy sharpening
