Yes. I keep saying complaining that the 5D isn't a top of the line camera doesn't make any sense.
Complain about what's available in the 1 series. The 1DIII is the camera closest to the D700 and the D3.
Quit harshing our 5D mellow you complainers.

On a completely different note, I do think we've reached the end of an era. The 5D was, and still is, magical, and there's no way the MKII will be regarded like the 5D is/was. The 5D STILL holds up amazingly compared to any other camera in its price range, despite being 3 years old. The MKII I believe is the advent of more regular upgrades. I'd expect a MKIII in a year-or-so, especially with all of these HD video features coming to life.

That said, a MKII is mine, day one.

A rational view from someone with a $8000 camera that probably has somewhat less IQ than a 5DII. I hear if rain is forecast the 5DII stops working. It's crap.

They claim it is weather sealed, but it's not anywhere near what the 1 series are. Keep in mind that they claim that the 40D is weather sealed --- it's a very half-ass weather sealing. They put a little bit of foam rubber around the CF compartment, and the battery door, and they claim it is sealed. Take a look at a 1 series, or a Nikon pro body, and you'll see real weather sealing.

Has Westfall been quoted as saying they are done with announcements? I'm a bit surprised by only one lens.

No problem I just did it because I was getting tired of waiting forever just to see a few images. I guess canons sites are getting hit hard.

You would be completely right - if there wasn't the pro AF weather sealed Nikon D700 which is now sold for less than € 2200, € 200 less than the 5DII. And which (with an extra battery grip) can shoot at 8 fps.

That camera should be impossible, according to your statement. But - it's real.

Why is it so strange to expect that Canon could produce something similar?

The reason everyone is complaining about the AF and frame rate of the 5Dm2 is that they want a camera that can do action. Currently Canon doesn't make one that anybody would trust to buy(aka 1Dm3's troubled history). So, either you look at Nikon, or use a Mark2..............or complain that the 5Dm2 can't do it.

Hummm, seems to me that the 5D-II is a reasonable camera at a "fair" price (at least in NA). The only disappointment I have is (probably) in the focus system since it seems to be the same as the original 5D - which is "adequate", but no more than that.

For my work in the performing arts, sports, and scenics, the extra megapixels will be sometimes useful. The extra high ISO availability will be a definite asset.

On the whole, I am happy with the documented features - but I did expect somewhat more. None the less, it will probably do the job I need it to do (along with my existing 5D, 1D-IIn and 1D-III) and wait for a better camera with Canon's next offering.

p.39 #12 · Canon 5D Mark II master thread

Hello,

I've been around FM for some time now, certainly through the coming and going of many model releases. With the announcement of each new camera there are always the loud declarations that the new camera is not enough of an improvement, " I'll be keeping the 30, 60, 10, 20, 30D, or 1D, Ds, mk I,II", etc.
Then a few months after the camera is out it seems everyone is shooting with the new model.
However, I have not ever seen a rumour thread for any other new camera pass the 100 page threshold, so this new 5D is obviously eagerly awaited.
Therefore, I am sure this initial furore will die down and very shortly the same shrill voices bemoaning the abyssmal features of the 5D II will have laid down their plastic and will be staunchly defending it as the best thing ever.....at least until the rumour cycle is due to fire up again, and then it will be impossible to get a usable photo with it, and so it goes.
The King is dead, long live the King!

Best Regards,
Tom

ROFLMAO You are good. Just wanted to know, does the 'hide me' list have a scroll bar ... I find some special sense in the meaning of "EOSfun - hide me". I know for sure a few have EOSfun in their hidden list. Also a few that said they wanted a D700 but are locked in because of the investment in glass. We know secretly they have hidden EOSfun

here is the 5D site in Japanese

http://cweb.canon.jp/camera/5dmark2/index.html

ISO 6400 looks pretty good considering the bad lighting.

And the video grabs are pretty amazing.

I think unless your being paid to shoot a lot of action the combo of a 50D and a 5DII is terrific and at very reasonable cost for the performance. Practice makes much more difference than the ability of the 50D vs. 1 series.
The pixel density of the 50D is a great long lens "stretcher" too.
Lots to like in this two camera combo.

This is the absolute best, last thing that should be said in this thread. It is one of the few really rational and intelligent things said in the last 10 pages. Furthermore, any group of clear minded, intelligent people could easily agree to end this discussion with Jeffrey's dead on accurate summation of the issue. But I doubt we will...
