Does anyone know why when converting to DNG format the file size is approx. 80% of the CR2 file size? Is it just file compression, or is something left out of the raw data during the conversion?

If you search ebay for "canon wireless remote" you will find several. The one I am currently using looks like the one at the address below. But, I got it from a different seller.
edit to by comment below: I see right in the heading that it works for the 5D. I guess I still wonder how the quality appears to be?
So will this work with the 5D II and 5D? Any issues at all? The price sure is right but how does the quality seem? Having lived in China I know there are good and bad, just like anywhere. I also do electronic work and I bought a soldering iron while there for $2.25, yep that is cheap. It looked good and I figured it would last for another year while there but I still use it and like and prefer it to my professional soldering irons that cost 50 times as much. I am still using the same tip, which has lasted about 20 times longer than any other I have ever had for the amount of work I do.
CR2s are losslessly compressed, as are DNGs. DNG supposedly uses a newer and more advanced compression algorithm that is slightly more efficient. With the 5D Mark I, it's a lot more than 20% savings, more like 30-40% in my experience.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not interested in upgrading to CS4 just yet, but also didn't want to lose anything using the DNG conversion. The difference with the Mark II is 4-5 meg on a 21-25 meg CR2 file. Going to run out of disk space quickly with all these large files, 25 meg CR2, 20 meg Digital Negitive, and 6 meg JPG. Looks like I'm in for a lot more housekeeping...
I find that large files make me edit even on the "road", and frankly I am glad it does. I did some work from Tibet and Nepal and didn't have a great deal of storage so I edited in camera and it saved me a lot of shots that just weren't good and of course gave me much more room to work with.
Amazon (briefly) had the 5D Mark II body-only in stock this afternoon. Mine is already listed as about to ship! Should have it by Friday, or Monday at the latest!
Dear Canon: I'm putting $2600 worth of trust in the fact that you will resolve the issues with the camera! Please don't disappoint me!
What issues? I don't have a single issue with my 5D II .... and I am damn sure I am not alone .....

And I hope I don't have any issues with my 5D Mark II either. But Canon has CLEARLY admitted that some users ARE experiencing issues (banding, black dots in highlights) and they are investigating the situation.
Obviously, I am unconcerned enough about this to spend $2600 for the camera now rather than later. But it is silly for anyone to pretend that NOBODY is having issues when there is plenty of clear evidence that SOME folks are.

Reading this sends shivers down my spine when I remember the "early adopter" problems I had with the 1Dmk111.
There may be some issues that people are reporting, but don't overly concern yourself with the severity. I have been shooting with mine for about a month now at all kinds of ISOs and situations and can definitely say it is a solid camera that produces excellent results. It is NOT the 1D3...and you'll be happy to know that the AI Servo (center point) works very well (much better than I was expecting)...(since we're comparing 1D3 problems)
I sure was hesitant to be an early adopter again myself after some of the 1D3 issues I had....Of course, mine didn't start until AFTER they installed the submirror "FIX". All is well now....and I haven't seen any black dots in highlights on the 5D2. Sure there is some banding in super high ISOs (h1/h2)...but not extreme and I am hopeful that it'll be minimized with a firmware upgrade. I have been shooting a LOT at ISO 6400 and have been very pleased with it.
Gaaahhhh, having to wait until my next project abroad comes up but it would be fun to have meantime. I am glad they used some weather sealing though as I have stated about my 5D, in very, very bad conditions with dust, rain, Mt. Everest etc, no problems but a little extra sealing is always nice.
Well it is enjoyable reading about everyone's experiences, thank you for that.
And to those who have also posted images, again thank you.

the black dots are definitely real and I believe universal (although it does seem that some are more prone to them than others, I have seen people get lots of them at ISO100 even while I seem to only get them at higher ISO (perhaps onyl when shooting outdoors in teh cold, not sure yet), at least with how I shoot such subjects).
and while I have not seen the sRAW1 banding, others have and I mean even canon has directly admitted the problem exists.
and my battery comaprtment door (as well as for some others) does do a squeak noise when I grip the camera which makes the build feel a bit flimsy although in practical terms it doesn't mean anything so it's not that big of a deal.
that said since I haven't seen sRAW1 banding myself and the squeak doesn't really affect anything in the end and the black dots are pretty situational (and even when they show, in most shots it doesn't matter, although I do have about 4 nice shots that will require extensive and time consuming PP or time wasted writing a program to autofix them so I would certainly rather the issue were not there, also I perhaps haven't tested it enough yet either), I still have to say that so far I'm very glad to have the camera for sure.

I haven't had any issues. I have had it a year or so and used it with a 5D, 5DMK2, and 1DMK2. It works as both a corded shutter release and a wireless release. The bit with the cord has a trigger button. Also it has a cold shoe foot so you can slide it into the hot shoe mount when using the wireless transmitter.
Two weeks now with 5DMII - having so much fun with first FF, have yet to touch HD Video option. Very pleased with camera thus far, no issues whatsoever. Great ISO 6400 - I'll admit, 6fps would have been sweet!
