I can't speak to the feel of the shutter release button on the original 5D or the 1-series.
According to Canon support, it "should have the same amount of tactile feedback as
the other models". personally, I don't think mushy = tactile feedback.

The first time I called they said if ordered before 9/17 you would receive the first batch.
I called again about 2 days ago and told them I ordered 10/29 I was told 3-4 weeks before I get mine.
They tell me diff stories. A few days ago they said ill get it 2nd shipment for sure. Now they tell me a few weeks to a month or two. They keep switching their stories. Whats worse is that there are several people that received their orders already that paced them further down the list from late september, to october, to even november; while many 9/17 orders havent even been placed yet.
I got a trip for a few weeks coming up, so I might have to be forced to cancel since I cant receive it. This will force me to be placed on another waiting list when I get back and be the last in line.

I don't know what you're considering "mushy," but when I hold my 5D2 side-by-side with my 5D1 as well as with an old Elan I and and two AE-1P cameras I still have:
The 5D2, 5D1, and AE-1P cameras are identical; the Elan is slightly softer.
They are all "mushy" compared to the mechanical crispness I remember of my old F1 cameras, but they are also all crisper than the electrical release of the Mamiya RZ67 cameras I still have.
Okay .... Amazon finally confirmed shipping details of my order of 9/17 for the body only. Should arrive either Friday or Monday. Already got my spare battery from Adorama.

I'm happy you cleared that up, because when you look around, you still find mostly the older versions being offered, at great (seemingly) prices.
yeah the adorama deal that some of us got was great, like $4 per 8GB 30MB/s extreme IIII card.
I think I got jipped. I think I paid 7 bucks a pop once you add shipping from bh. I had my dad order 3 for me too figured I could always sell them for 10 each and make 3 bucks a pop.

Depending upon what you define as "mushy" I suspect your camera may come back the same. If you do a search on 5D (Mark 1 or 2) you will find that many people have noticed the shutter feels different than the xxD or 1 series cameras There is not as much of a point where the shutter gets hard and you have to push past to get shutter release. The 5 series is just that way.

That's crazy. Yeah, I didn't know how much to believe them, but I got a deal from them so I not going to cancel my order.
I got in late on ordering, I pre-ordered from Amazon and haven't heard a thing. Just found out Ritz Camera, who is usually sky high on prices, has a 5%discount plus no tax and free shipping.
