I canceled my Adorama 5D MKII kit pre-order (9/21). Hope it helps some of you.
I just haven't seen a full size image from a 5D Mark II that I was wowed by at any ISO - and I have been looking. A lot of shots seem to have a hazy over-processed look to them when viewed at 100% in Photoshop, possibly due to too much NR like this one:
Maybe it is due to the lack of raw images from the 5D MKII out there at this point, but the only shots I have seen that have looked good are scaled down web size images. Heck, I can use my 20D for that. In my opinion 6400 on the 5D MKII is not usable without a lot of post work. I hope I am wrong since I really wanted to like the new 5D. If anyone has some links to better full size images please post them.
Justin D - I would agree. Without much more than my visual working with these files, I would venture to say that ISO6400 on the Mark II is the equivalent of ISO800 on the Mark I.
I would love to see some shots at 100-400 iso. It seems we are fixated on High ISO. Just take some shots and post them already.............am I asking for too much. When I get my camera I will post 5-6 of many different subjects so others can examine.

I would also like to see shots in 100-400 iso, only difference is, I want to be the one taking them. Where is my camera? Enjoy the bird.
I'm interested in 100 iso shots as well. Sep-Nov about all we got were discussions on the video (so much so that I wonder if that was part of the agreement that only video could be discussed by those few who got their hands on pre-production units). I'm very happy for everyone who needs the high iso quality, but for me it's the 100 iso compared to a 1Ds III that I'd like to start seeing some camparisons to. Perhaps with some time today and this weekend we'll start getting some first impressions. Congrats to all who have theirs so far, happy shooting.

Hey guys, the dog is not the best shot I admit. I was just too excited to get something out there and I was wowed by the ability to shoot at ISO6400.
The shot of Shamrock is cute - what type of dog?
Did you get rid of the noise in post or was that from a NR camera setting?

On some of the images posted around the web, I noticed people stated that they had in camera NR turned on. In fact I saw a few where they said it was set to "high". Perhaps that is the reason, at least I hope so, that the images have not been all that stellar.
In a week we will be seeing hundreds of images posted at all sorts of ISO settings I'm sure. I wouldn't have given up yet. You could always get the camera and if you didn't like it, get all your money back plus some on the B&S board.

The rationale is pretty simple. Any new DSLR or Mk II version is going to be better from ISO 100-400 in terms of noise performance. The difference (between these new DSLRs) is going to be the noise level at the upper end i.e. ISO 1600 and up .... so this is where the focus of attention will be. If it does well at ISO 6400 you can be sure that it will be superb at ISO 100-400.

I hope you are right but I am starting to wonder. A little noise isn't hard to tame with Neat Image, but I can't stand loosing the detail with too much in camera NR. There is also a lot of chromatic aberration in many of the shots I have seen (depending on the lens used of course), but that can be fixed in Photoshop.
I don't mind waiting for a good full frame camera but I was/am hoping that the 5D MKII will be the one to get. I am still using a 20D.
