I ordered mine on the 21st too, and the woman I spoke with at Adorama told me that I'd definitely be in the first shipment to customers, though I haven't received any phone calls.
Thanks Jeremy! Hope she was correct. That'd be a nice surprise as I really wasn't expecting an early delivery.

If you are referring to the one from a Hong Kong dealer digital-rev-access, do you know if there is an international warranty?
yes, thats the one. they include 12 month standard warranty but no international warranty on this item. this is what their page says:
"Standard Warranty:
Our products are covered under our own 12 months seller's warranty against any manufacture defects. If a manufacture defect is found within 12 months after the date of purchase, simply contact us and we will provide instructions on how to get your item(s) serviced. In some cases, we may ask you to return the item to us in Hong Kong and we will have it professionally serviced in a manufacturer appointed service centre. We will also cover all the postage costs involved*."
it would certainly be a pain to have to send it back to them for any repair so i suppose im taking my chances. similarly, if i had purchased the 1ds used it would have been a compromise considering the warranty would be less then a year

I went with my local dealer and a pre order, and got an early camera, number 6 out of about 20 they got in the first shipment. But I did pay sales tax, which was more than half of the price premium you paid. I hope your delivery goes smooth, and that you end up with no return issues that could crop up.
The most important part is getting the right camera for your needs. You sound like you have made the right choice, and there is nothing wrong with wanting to get it sooner rather than later, or perhaps even much later. ...Show more →
ooh i forgot about tax, i live in NH
thanks for the well wishes, the company has a high ebay rating so im confident itll work out
from what I hear, by end of next week or beginning of the week after, at latest, if you are willing to pay local sales tax it should not be too much of a problem to get one (and even by today or friday, if you don't live near NJ, haha) all the little guys I talked too seemed to think anyone would be able to walk in and get one the day they arrive, no problem. The frenzy is mostly about internet order places that let you avoid sales tax and a few of the more famous, well-trafficked smaller shops.
Anyway, just my impression. And, of course, this is a rather US-centric view. I don't know about elswhere, best of luck.
also my impression that canon is EVIL. Seeing how almost everywhere BUT the home territory of the NY Yankees fan base appears to have already received stock, or will so by Friday. EVIL I tells ya. DIVEST FROM CANON!
Either that or they are tracking my posts and making sure that wherever I am will not get them first, just in case I do end up, by some miracle, getting a pass to shoot the actual last soccer next week (NCAA finals) or the park suddenly starts allowing regular patrons to bring camera in again. EVIL I tells ya! In fact, I wouldn't be surpised if at least 98% of their total budget is devoted to tracking my posts and foiling me every step of the way haha. Actual cost of 5D MkII development and parts.... $39.95. Cost of development, parts and foiling me.... priceless. Diabolical. Or maybe they just realize that I really need the D800 and would be foolish to stick with canon and get the 5dmkii when in 12 months (i.e. at least 24 months before canon ever decides to make a 3D) nikon will have a D800 that ties the 5dmkii at MP, movie, noise while troucing it with AF/shutter/mirror performance for the same exact price....
anyway, hope everyone who has one is well satsified and loving it and having a blast. take lots of pics of those 6-legged Madden turkeys and turkduckens and other traditional thanksgiving monstrosities. and make sure AI Servo is on, they can be feisty.
I saw all the preorders at the online stores, went to my local camera store in the Milwaukee suburbs back in October. I ended up being first on the list and received my camera today!!! All the hype is real. ISO6400 is so usable. We're all going to love this camera. I can't wait to go shooting tomorrow. If you want to see a few images:

cute pics, but at like 50x50 impossible to judge, my 20D looks every bit as good at ISO6400, at that size.
anyway have fun tomorrow!
maybe learn to use the interwebs before making smartass remarks that make you look dumb. There are much larger pics in his link, and they blow the snot out of my 20D @ iso 1600
At ISO6400, it beats my 5D at ISO 1600. I am one happy camper . . .
That is pretty much what I'd hoped for at my most optimistic. That and 1600 to look like 5D 800 odd. Sounds good. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get one till mid January, but seeing as I have PhD thesis to submit in December, that's not a bad thing.
Will be getting a 450D in the meantime, I think.

He didn't have the option to view all sizes turned on in his flickr account at first.
The pics look good. I'd say the noise at iso 6400 looks pretty close to iso 800 on my 40D.
