It is, but just a quick word on raw's... I've not yet had a RAW jump over 25mb's, because the data is compressed using lossless compression, which is carried through on Lightroom and the like. Average tends to be 20mb's. (EDIT: Note these are 1DsIII files)
Personally when I used the Epson P2000 I found it appauling for anything the moment you had more then 10gig on the HDD itself. Very slow, and terrible interface with the PC (USB). A short time ago, I used their latest unit, which still didn't impress me enough. Personally I though that if I'm spending that much on one, it's about the same, more convenient and just has combersome to get a smaller laptop and fit a large HDD with it. ...Show more →
I will never buy a USB drive to work off again, for a laptop eSata is so much better it isnt even funny.

esata is faster then firewire 800. I tested. Some people claim to have the same speed but I don't see how. In each test I did esata literally had double speed and I tried on windows machines, macs, each with different cables, enclosures, drives, etc (I have all that at disposal where i work) and each and every time esata was faster. Even eSata through and express card slot was faster then fw800
For sure, this is true. If you're running eSATA, the bottleneck is the drive I/O rated itself.
eSata is significantly faster and more responsive - to the point that i'm considering resintalling the OS and everything i have on the external drive (instead of the laptop's drive) plus many times (depending on mobo/chipset etc) the eSata controller will have a better connection to the rest of the PC than the FW/USB controller.
Btw, sicne you said Avg files are 20MB would i be right in saying that Higher ISO RAWs will be larger than lower ISO RAWs? (my reasoning is that since there is more noise in higher iso files, then these will be less compressible)

There is a guy on here that posted a link to a bunch of files, and they are like 24mb mostly, and 34 MB for a 25600 file.

Anyone knows if the upgrade will work with CS3?
Unfortunately, no. ACR 5.x will only work with CS4 and it is unlikely that adobe will update ACR 4.x (which is the version that CS3 uses) to include support for 5DII.

Just call local shops in Oregon and they said they had been notified but will received on Wednesday.
ProPhoto in Portland? I called and spoke to someone there -- he made it clear that I was inconveniencing him by talking to him! But he knew nothing beyond that they had been notified and didn't know when they would be in.

That is pretty rude. It was, one of them. They should have Fedex tracking # but not every one was nice enough to find out and tell the stories again and agains. I bet lots of calls these days. I am acually not on the top of their list, but hope in another store, which I was on the top. I need only a kit. If I get more than one, I'll post and let others take the rest
Ordered mine from Amazon early on Sept. 17th. With all the chatter here I checked my order on Amazon. It now has a "will not be shipped until AFTER Dec. 25, 2008 tagged above the order.
Damn .... you spend $2,700 on a 5D II and then find that you will need a new L-bracket, some spare batteries, and you will also have to upgrade your computer hardware and software, etc.

Raw converter for 5DII is available in 5.2 and that will work with the following( from Adobe site....
The Camera Raw 5.2 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS4, versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 6, or versions of Adobe Premiere Elements earlier than 4.0.
Looks like you need Element 6 to stay up with the changes (;-)
They called me today and my camera will be shipped on Monday.. I'm a CS3 Extended user but I use Capture One/Phase one and they have already added the 50D/5DII..

I just checked my Amazon order which I also placed Sept. 17. I don't have that message tagged above the order. I also would take Amazon's information with a grain of salt, since it was probably a computer that tagged it that way. At least, this is how it's been for me in the past. Weirdness with ship dates is not unusual with Amazon...
