Looks like we've finally got a release date!!
<br><br> Body EOS 5D Mark II will be released November 29
That appears to be a Japanese release date. You think it's worldwide? Or do we have to go to the Tokyo B&H store?
BTW, the Google automatic translator is a hoot! Anyone know about the OTORAITINGUOPUTIMAIZA function? I'm surprised to see that on an under $4,000 camera!
And I am really curious about the improved dust and water.
I seem to recall a local dealer telling me a couple years ago that Canon caters to the big houses like B&H and pretty much treats the small shops as second class citizens. He told me they get about 10% of what they order, so if they want 25 of a new camera, they order 250.
Anyone else ever hear that? I find a local dealer with orders for 300 cameras selling for $2,700 each fairly unlikely. My camera store owner told me he had 50 people who "want to be called" when the 5D2 is in stock, but only five had actual deposits down. When he calls me, I'm going to be in there in 30 minutes. No way those 50 "want to be called" people are going to get to handle my wife's new camera!

Both Japanese 'alphabets' (no Alpha or Beta here!), not including Kanji (which are really Chinese characters), excepting vowels alone and the letter N, have a consonant and a vowel together. You can see this above with a general consonant, vowel, consonant, vowel pattern, with the odd two vowels together. This means that things are spelt funny (to us) when words are spelt phonetically in Japanese. I believe the above was probably using the Katakana alphabet and was a phonetic spelling of "auto-writing optimizer", though I would've expected it to start with OO instead of O (OO is in a long O sound, rather than the sound in "hoot").
Go to the B&H store? Sure, if you want to buy it from a Tokyo retailer. However, like many people, I pre-ordered mine online. Oh yeah, they'll ship it to me too!!
Another example - I just ordered a 24-70mm f/2.8L from Canada for $1199 CAD, or about $943 USD. Well below the best that can be found in the US, and lower than even some pre-owned copies on the buy/sell forum.
The Canadian Canon rebates can help even more.

How much is the difference buying it in Canada?

People are still debating and wondering if they should get the 5D II, the 1Ds3, or the D700 .... which suggests that the 5D II is not so hot that supply cannot cope with demand.

I think that's "auto lighting optimizer", which compensates for vignetting.
Oh yeah, good pickup =) I haven't studied Japanese for almost 20 years =) (Japanese doesn't have an L sound so they use an R sound instead as it's the closest option)
Just got home from Bruce Dorn's Print Master Seminar by Canon & Midwest Photo and they had the 5d Mark II out to look at and try. Very very nice! They had the wireless transmit grip on it also. I wasn't allowed to use my own CF card but I took alot of photos and video with the camera and it looks very promising. I am even now thinking about selling my MKIII to buy one haha. The owner of Midwest Photo spoke and said he found out the ship date for it and he said its very soon...very very very soon. So by the way he talked it's any day now.
Also the rep said the wireless grip will run about 1k

Did the wireless grip work?
without issues?
What did they tether it too?
aperture, lightroom, c1?
I was at the Midwest Photo seminar today and also saw the 5D and it is as good as everyone has been saying. All the negative comments from those that have not seen it or used it are just wrong. You cant judge a camera like this till you get it in your hands and try it in dim light etc.

well for the 40D the local mom and pops had them the very first day and the people who ordered from beach/amazon/B&H didn't get that quite that soon
