Canon have had bad luck with the timing of the 5D2 release IMHO. If they had brought it out last year I would have bought one then no question, now I expect I will have to wait for the world wide economic crisis to stabilize, may take 2 or 3 years?
In the meantime perhaps Canon should bring out an austerity full frame for us amateurs. The 5D2 price may be justifiable in relation to its historical competition, but in absolute economic terms I wonder how many are going to be able to buy it now without worrying whether it is money that should be saved against rent, or the prospect of unemployment?
Lousy timing. Photographic life isn't just about megapixels.
True, it's lousy timing, but no one expected or could have predicted this severe global recession just a few months ago. The silver lining for Canon is the fact that Nikon came up with no new product at Photokina, apart from the earlier announcement of the D90 .... so in a sense, the 5D II did not have to compete with say a 24mp D3x or D4 .... so demand for this camera is robust. The Sony A900 is not a big threat IMO.
PMA should be interesting, as it will happen when the economic crisis will possibly be at it's worst point. I wonder if the major players will hold off the release of any new cutting-edge DSLR aside from incremental upgrades.
Anyone know anything about a possible 24mp Nikon 3Dx announcement on December 1?

oh man if only they released in the US today too.
damn. my last event is this evening, so would've wanted to try it for it.
i guess i'll just wait till the price sinks on it next year, if they can't get it here by now, then they lost a full price buy from me, what can I say.
With the economy so bad i guess that is good in the end in a sense that i'll get it for less money (of course if the price doesn't sink early next year then this jsut stinks all-around)

or nevermind last year, if they had just brought it out in late august, a few months earlier, people might've not been as scared off yet and they'd have gotten it out for the fall foliage, wedding, etc. seasons and well ahead of the D3x announcement and close to the D700, etc. Maybe next time they won't give interviews goping on about how they have competition and site and see no need to get moving on new introductions and try to stay ahead instead.

there is one crazy sounding rumor about $8700 USD?
Now if that is the case then perhaps canon is well ahead with the high-MP FF sensors. I find that price a little hard to believe with the new D700/A900 price levels, granted this has 2x MP as the D700 and probably video and much better body than the A900, but $8700 sounds a bit crazy. I'm sure canon would overjoyed to see that price materialize though!

Ahhh, crazy rumour what? You really need to quote properly to make your posts a bit more readable, even allowing for the fact that the quoting seems to be on the fritz.
And given that we're still inside Canon's estimated delivery schedule, complaining about it not being out yet is somewhat strange.

he asked if anyone heard any new rumors about the D3x and I was like yeah I jsut noticed a crazy one, one where the suggested price will be $8700 USD for it.
No worries, mate .... the 5D II will be fully tested, all the bugs and problems fixed, and the price will fall .... just in time for the 2009 Fall season!

as for the 5DMkII release schedule, well it stinks for me personally, whether it sneaks in under the deadline or not and I can't think it's good, in general, if landscape and wedding photographers are major 5-series buyers and the northern hemisphere markets it the largest and the fall season is now over.

only problem is next fall season I will no longer have access to shoot some of the top teams in the country
also my last chance to get a handle on whether it could handle action well enough for me to live with it and sell off my xxD before their price drops too much more
and i had an entire week free for fall shooting this year and next year during fall I may not even be in area that has fall
so yeah the 5d mkii release has been 'perfect' for me
haha, oh well, what can you do anyway there ARE plenty of other interesting things to shoot with it , but i am going to be left a bit confused as to whether I should sell off my xxD (i would like too since i'm not rich) and if i did now is the time, by february when I can at least see if the 5d mkii can handle bball (or i hope i ge tthe chance), my xxD may have little resale value perhaps....

If the price of a 5D is going to have that great an impact on your life over the next 2-3 years, you shouldn't even be thinking about buying one.
