Personal preference, many photographers, myself included find that the batterygrip, or preferably the PRO bodies add better balance to the package. A 5D or a D300/D700 with a 70-200 or even a 300 f/2.8 balances quite badly and can be a pain to operate handheld for a long period of time. More so than any of the PRO bodies. I find it more important to have good balance in the camera compared to loose weight. Personal preference :-)

I am definitely in the opposite camp. Our cameras and lenses weigh too much. I prefer carrying my 5D to my 1DMK2. The 1DMK2 is big, bulky, and heavy. I wish they would make lenses and bodies out some lighter material with similar physical performance characteristics of the current materials.

I keep seeing people say that a hypothetical 7D will be 21MP camera, but the higher the camera number (7>5>3), the lower the specs should be.

7D should be the cheapest camera, with lowest amount of features and megapixels. Maybe an *extremely* cheap FF 15.1 MP camera with the new LCD and all those other features that are standard in the 2008 cameras. A FF 50D.

5DII should be one step above with more MP and features.

3D should be the big daddy of them all, exceeding the 1Ds3, but not exceeding a hypothetical 1Ds4, which should be one step above the 3D, but the 3D should be almost identical to the 1Ds4, minus a main feature or two. The price of the 1Ds series should be significantly lower.

This is all true... if I was in charge of Canon.

thank you for correcting my horrible english. Yes, that was what I wanted to know.
50Ds shutter has a life span of 100.000 cycles, 1D MK III of 300.000.
There is no deal. I just asked if anybody read any rumor about 5DII concerning that issue?

Photonik wrote:
Hopefully it'll have zero. I mean , it's brand new. (I know you mean "how durable will the shutter be?", but since it'll be rated to at least 100,000, what's the big deal?)

Maybe there is a mix between rumors: the 21MP is actually for the 3D, while the price (2300$) is for the 7D.....

Repeating EOSfun in every post you make is ridiculous. That is all.

I think it just shows that s/he has obsessive compulsive disorder. Just like how children don't step on cracks on the pavement etc.

So while it may be annoying, ridiculous and absolutely pointless - it represents a diseased mind in the poster so most people overlook it and tolerate it.

It could also be a subtle trolling method that the forum apparently can live with....

I hope they just ditch the number/letter combination altogether and name it something cooler. Canon EVO or something. Wait that sounds like an olympus camera.... or a car...

Maybe the release of the new 5D is somehow connected with the large hadron collider (LHC)? It should start working on wednesday, so thats the day that 5DII will be announced!!!

thxs. That is what I wish, too. The shutter is the only piece that ever broke in one of my 4 EOS cameras. In the D60 after maybe 110.000 shots (instead of guarantied 65.000 as far as I remember).

Why ignore them? I've had so much EOSfun learning about coffeepowder. Who needs camera rumors anyway.

I understand - we all have different preferences and needs, and that is why there are so many models out there - hopefully one of them would appeal to us. Sadly, for a lot of us here on the Canon forum, the D700 has the spec that we need. So hopefully Canon will oblige .... with a 7D and 3D this month, and a 1D upgrade in February.

I have just acquired a 200/1.8L and that thing weighs close to 7lbs or 3kg and it's front-heavy - but the last thing I need (personal choice, of course) is a heavy/bulky body - even though it may give it better balance. A integral vertical grip without the bulk and weight would be nice though.

That'd be a cool feature, if it was supplemented with a CF card slot as well.

What would be cool about it?
