Two features: price and price ... would be nice: large 100% viewfinder, perfect ISO3200 IQ.
Please no built in-grip. With 16GB memory cards cheap, built-in memory isn't much of a feature. I'd be happy with a 50D body + 20MP sensor at the right price. If they could move the AF to the next level, that would be nice.

The autofocus problem is not something you can pick as a consistent problem with Canon.
Most of their cameras are fantastic and it was Autofocus superiority that won them such a huge segment of Nikons market in the first place.
i guess although if you saw how hideously my 40D did today in bright sun/heat/humidty... literally only 1 in 30 when using the TC with the 300 2.8 were even half-way reasonably focused! terrible! someone on DPR said they jsut heard that some of the 40Ds might have shipped with a bad board that delivers too low of a voltage to the AF sensor, perhaps that is what has been plaguing mine and what explains why some say its great and others dog the ai servo....
Wireless Flash with several banks of flash heads controlled by the POP UP FLASH assuming it has a pop up flash. Nikon has this feature in the following bodies;
D70 (pop up controls only one bank of flash heads)
D50
D80
D90
D200
D300
D700
(Pro bodies have to use the attached controler)
Wait this would only bring it closer to being equal to the D700. Hmmmmm back to the drawing board.

How about exceptional AF, high ISO and metering?
That's pretty much a given, I'd say. At this juncture, Canon cannot afford to loose more photogs to the other camp by coming up with anything less than a stellar body or shall we say, bodies, since supposedly Canon may introduce two new cameras instead of just one. Exciting time is approaching.... .

For those who didn't read into it... Sony have stated effectively they're the only ones who will use the 24mp sensor (exlusively for the Alpha). Add to that, the sensor is a 12bit DAC sensor, and with Sony's comparitively poor ISO performance (relative to the current market) this won't be a the one that all pro's go out and buy... Personally I don't see it as a big threat.
I think you're right as I've heard the Nikon D3x won't be here until the PMA next year.
Built in grip would be the 1D series. Built in memory would be a bad idea for many reasons, unless as some sort of backup system. Imagine shooting a wedding, running out of memory and then waiting 5 minutes to plug in the camera to an HDD to empty the in-camera memory to start shooting again. Give me a 3-second memory card swap anyday.

Looks like a similar body to the current 5D/40D with an 85L mounted.

Definitely not an 85L. I haven't used the 50 enough to know if it's a 50 or not, though. And the viewfinder box of the camera is rounded, so definitely not the 40D and it could be a 5D if we blame the image quality for making it look rounded...

Probably a 50L then. Body does seem to be a bit thicker than the 5D but hard to tell...
Can't think of any reason why I would be interested in internal memory or a built in grip. Large and fast CF cards are cheap and besides, if I was going to go down the route of a 5D replacement with 21MP and 1D series AF, the whole point would be a smaller 2nd body/backup so more than likely I wouldn't use a grip on it anyway.
