Interfoto which is Norways biggest distributor of Canon has announced that they will showcase Canonīs new EOS camera on thursday 18th from 11-18.00 in their shop.
For those savy in norwegian, www.interfoto.no, no technical details.
Canonīs norwegian site will announce it 18th 06.00, i suppose that means a couple of hours earlier (17th) in Tokyo?
My money is on crivera, he not only predicted the 50D right, but also the 40D and the 1DmkIII 2 years ago. So for the 5DII:
21 MP
Digic IV
14 bits
4 FPS

Genuine letdown over hypothetical specs...... I'm going to hold back on my letdown until I see real specs published. Who knows.....hypothetically I may not be let down....

So, what if noting happens on the 17th
(not unlikely IMO, because of earlier predictions for April, Sept 12 and Sept 15 to name a few)
That's easy: folks here will invent another date on which the announcement will absolutely, definitely be made. Repeat until fade.
(Note here all this anticipation for an *announcement* - cf 50D - it will likely take weeks for reviewers to get their hands on one & possibly months before they land in a store near you)
Well, this is a rumor thread dealing with hypothetical specs, so I will express my hypothetical disappointment for now. Tomorrow is a different day when the Canon moon is in full phase and I may change my opinion.
The top of the updated moon image now shows the top viewfinder/prism area of the camera to be very similar in style to the 1d series- seemingly more streamlined as opposed to the chunky looking front prism of the current 5d.
According to the mythical Canon 5D specs, it will offer more gizmos such as a movie mode than the Sony. I really loved my 5D but I'm not in denial that it lacked in certain areas. IQ was not one of them, real features and build quality was one.

That is what the 5D is about and what Canon has to produce. Why are people aleady criticising a camera that is not released yet. We do not know how well the new 9 pt AF works on the 50D - it may be great. I was practicing shooting football at a football practice yesterday with my current 5D and about 20 of 400 shots were OOF. What is the problem? If you want gizmos buy a Sony. I want IQ....Show more →

what really interests me s the "smoke" like thing in the right part of the canon moon pic shown above!
I was going to say what interests me the most is the fact the space where the integrated grip would be is blacked out. Does this thing have an integrated grip or not? If so, then this is very exciting. We could be looking at the fabled "3D".

Based on the specs below, which I suspect is true, this camera is a let down.
21MP Full Frame Sensor
digic4
3.9 fps
9 point AF
Viewfinder: 98%
3.0" VGA LCD
Live View
Movie Mode
AF adjustment
Integrated Cleaning System
No pop-up flash
17 September Announcement
That is a throughput of 81.9 mpix/s. The 50D does 95 mpix/s. Why should they artificially cripple a camera they make such a hype about? The days they could act this way are gone. They have to compete now. I don't believe these specs.
Just depends on what a particular pro is looking for. Traditionally speaking, a rugged body, high FPS, weather sealing and especially a 100% viewfinder were traits only found on the highest end, pro bodies. Of these, I really just care about that viewfinder as far as usability is concerned for myself. I do not shoot above ISO 200 very often and with in body IS, shooting handheld at one or two shutter speed stops is not an issue. It just depends on your priorities but you will have a hard time making a case that many of the fundamental features of the A900 I mentioned can be found on non pro Canon or Nikon bodies. Enjoy your D60!

100 % VF and weathersealing do not make a "prolike body". The a900 is far away from beeing that. 25 MP do a pro cam neither. I only saw samples (what else?). But I am sorry my D60 (eos) produced less noisey pictures at ISO 400 and 800 5 years ago.
Here is what Sony say about weather sealing on the A900:
"Moisture/dust-resistant design
Sealed viewfinder optics and rubber gasket surrounds on all buttons, dials, and switches help resist the entry of dust and moisture into the camera, and allow for safe use in a wide range of environments."
That is more than my 5D which constantly allowed dust into the viewfinder area. The A900 is not weather proof but is weather resistant.

The sony doesn't have weather sealing. My point all along is that they will have to pursuade 5D customers to upgrade and a 16 megapixel 50D won't do it. If it's 21 megapixels then I'm buying one even with the same AF system. If it's got pro AF and weather sealing then I'm buying one even if it's only 15 megapixels. If it ain't either then why should I bother?
