Globalkiwi asked Ralphi: Is the next purported announcement date still September 12th? That was what I suggested. The dealer I trust told me that NDA runs out at 12th. And we will get all info then latest. Ralph Ralph, do you - or your dealer - have any news for us?
September 12th was never a real date in NDA. I told you in one of my earlier posts. Ralph just trusts the wrong people it seems. I hope the dealer he trusts will keep his promise having the new camera for him, without a preregistration Maybe they say just "tschussi !!!"
And for all of you speculating on 15th: 15 is MON-tag (German), Mo(o)n-day, Maan-dag (Dutch), etc. Have EOSfun then!
Ulrikft - Why an announcement before, why not *at* the Photokina? Makes most marketing sense. Plus, given the "buzz" on this & other sites they would be better served to wait - you can't buy this kind of customer interest!
People have insisted on a variety of dates before Photokina, for a variety of reasons (usually some version of "my dealer, who's well connected, told me"), and a bunch of those dates (including today) have been & gone already with nothing but a slow moving teaser from Canon. I think they intend to wait to launch their new products at the industry-wide venue for launching new products: Photokina.

I am so glad this thread is here. I'm actually dreading the release of the new 5D. This thread has acted as a catch-all for much of the utterly inane chatter that used to permeate the canon section more thoroughly. Can we keep this thread open but with the title "Canon 5D3 Rumors" so that it can continue to serve this vital function?

Actually, I asked him if he had any news - as he was one of those most insistent that he had the inside track on the announcement date - because I suspected he was just guessing like everyone else on this thread. Looks like I was right.
(You may have said this earlier but I missed it. I sometimes follow your advice & skip your posts! )

Beacause they "always" do it right before? :P
Yeah, so maybe we'll get an announcement the day before. Not between now & then. There's no upside for Canon to announce 5 days ahead of the biggest trade show - they'll wait to create the biggest splash they can.

So, one day before is not between now and then? You should meet my logic professor :P
My logic is fine. The implication of your earlier post - at least as I read it - was that it could happen any time during the 9-10 days between now & Photokina. My argument is that the earliest will be the eve (perhaps day before) Photokina - no sooner. To suggest otherwise is just more false prophecy of the like we've already had.

It will happen between today and the start of pk
But you can tell me, why did sony release their cam early? or the 50d ... d90.. if the ultimate marketing wise is pk?

Ok, sure. But I won't be holding my breath!
I may be wrong, but I don't think the other cameras you mention were being given the kind of strategic emphasis that Canon *appears* to be giving this one. Why else the secrecy, the teasers - & all this speculation?
You might well be right, Canon might announce on Monday but I think it makes more sense for them to delay & reap the benefits of the buzz that's being generated. Likewise, for the bored & expectant here, it's more interesting to chose another "announcement date" to look forward to & speculate about than just to wait until (*just* before) Photokina.
