"The test of the Canon EOS 50D was first made with firmware v.1.0.1, then with an updated firmware, version 1.0.2. The updated version significantly improved color and image noise performance."
I have seen that mentioned in several other articles as well. Mine has the 1.0.1. If 1.0.2 is out Canon doesn't list it and I haven't found a link to it anywhere.
FYI there is a difference in noise levels of Raw files processed in DPP and ACR 4.6. With NR turned off in DPP it is still better than ACR. Maybe when the real version comes out it will be better.
Does anybody know if DIWA does its testing on JPEG or RAW files? They talk about improved color and noise performance with FW 1.0.2. Do they refer to the quality of the actual RAW file here or to improvements to the JPEG engine?
I had an error in my first shoot out, but it didn't seem like a lens error, more like a card error and they crop up every now and again anyway. The top display kept telling me BUSY whenever I tried to snap a shot. A simple battery removal and reinsertion cleared the problem. The camera hadn't taken a photo for a while so it just seemed to be an abberation. Will have to see if it repeats - but fingers crossed - I'm not TOO worried about it at this point. I sense it was a one off. I hope I'm right!
Also, I've heard a lot about the 50D's extra resolution not buying you too much at smaller apertures. From I've been able to determine the 50D at f/16 beats the 40D at f/5.6 using a 50 mm f/1.4 USM lens (note, base conditions for this test are identical to that described in the link above). http://www.pbase.com/jkurkjia/image/104320251/original.jpg

Hmmmm, I think I will pass on the 50D for now...
That entire link sounds like BS to me. Someone hears someone say something and that starts the mad dash to the fire exit because they all act like lemmings.

Well, I don't care much about the technical aspects... But there seem to be a lot of reports from 50D owners about err99's on this forum als well as on DPreview and POTN. This error also seem to occur in the middle of a shoot. Weird stuff if you ask me...

There are always a lot of reports of error 99 after Canon introduces a camera.
Error 99 is given for several possible errors. Some of these people don't even charge their battery before using the camera.
