Sorry, I meant Extreme III (EX3). I don't know if Ducati CF cards are in the current Sandisk product line. The specs of the new Extreme IV are now the same as the Ducati.
So far I am not really impressed with 40D vs 50D 1600 and 3200 ISOs. 50D is half a stop better at most, which is pretty achievable via a software update. Images are also a bit less sharp at 100% crop. So where did the 1 extra stop go??

Into more pixels. Having higher resolution with equivalent-or-better noise performance demands a sensor package with at least a stop better noise characteristics.
Canon clearly thinks that photographers want more megapixels and the noise characteristics of their mid-range cameras are "good enough" for most customers. Personally, I would have loved to see a 12Mp 50D with substantially lower noise and smoother tonality.
I couldn't read all 30 some pages, but it seems that many of you're saying that it's not worth to upgrade to 50D if you already have 40D.
Is this pretty much the consensus of this thread?

I don't find that to be true. I think there are many improvements from the 40D worth upgrading for and better resolution is just one of them. My copy is very sharp, even at 100% crops.
The main thing is that it produces prints that are as sharp as any Canon camera I have used, and I have used them all except the 1DsMKIII.

Guess I'll be testing my crops to see how sharp my copy is. Upgrading from an XTi. I'm looking forward to getting this
WTF? My retail 50D kit came with a 28-135 IS in the box. I though it was an 18-135 in the store, but was not wearing the best reading glasses. Isn't the 28-135 an old lens for film and FF bodies? It seems to be an odd choice for the 1.6x bodies.
BTW, what is the lens worth on the used "as new" market?
I received my 50D this afternoon and have been playing with it a bit ...initial impressions .....the camera is very quick to focus using my 17-55 IS...the few pics I have been able to shoot thus far look tack sharp and the LCD is a revelation...when i first looked at it I took a take because I am not used to seeing such clarity in the LCD,you really can judge whether or not a picture is sharp etc. on this LCD...excellent.....my 40d was an excellent performer and it appears to me that the 50d will be also with a few more bells and whistles....so far so good in my limited use
