It should not make your heard beating faster when you compare it to the worlds best camera, Daan. This is still a 50D thread about a mid range semi pro camera, I think. A 1200 € camera body should better be compared to its competitors in price range, target group and IQ, I guess. And here it imo beats all competitors or stands next to much higher targeted products.
I am really ashamed that it does not reach the quality standards of a 6 times more expensive 1Ds MK III

You shouldn't be ashamed... I did't compare the 50D to a 1Ds3. Nor did I compare it to a DSLR from 2002
All I am saying is that the provided sample pics don't make me happy. But I am not willing to draw any conclusions about that either given the unknown variables.
I do find it pretty awesome that you can say the 50D beats all of its competitors in the same price range, based on a few crappy samples from a pre-production model. It seems you have made your final judgement already before any of us had a 50D in their hands yet. Suit yourself... I think I'll wait for that until I have the change to try one out myself

No. Of course not. I compared them to the crappy preproduction images of the others. Or else to their production sample images I found.
Of course I have to go to my dealer first and do some hours of testshooting on my own, using my lenses when the sales samples find their way to my dealer.

You mean the same crappy samples that you based your negative comments on
I am its on my Xmas list...FF is nice but 1.6 is fine and this has promising low light features
since you crank up the ISO a bit this would pair very well with the 17-40 for all around shooting...

Oh, I'm VERY interested, but what more is there to say until I can actually get my hands on one?
True... But have you looked at the 5D2 threads lately... First the rumor thread and now the master thread. All without ever having touched a single 5D2
