Yes, the face looks sharper in the 100-400 pic. But if you look at the carpeting near the feet (where the entire dof is visible), the 70-200 look considerably sharper.

**Price is FIRM, absolutely will not negotiate nor would I consider any low ball offer. If you want a cheaper 100-400L please look else where. Item is for sale only, no trade whatsoever. IF I can't sell this lens for the asking price then I rather keep it as a collector item.**
I'm sure it will make a very nice collector's item....

I don't know I have a new 100-400 date code UW and I think it's just as sharp. I think Canon has been turing out some very nice 100-400 with this date code as a friend of mine just bought one and it is perhaps the sharpest 100-400 I have ever seen.
Good luck on your sale nice lens by the way
Mines sharper than yours!
These post are approaching the "price police" rule so let the OP try and sell his lens without further comments other than your interest to buy.
You can certainly get a brand new one from online store for $1460 + shipping, and I believe there is a "never use" 100-400L somewhere in the B&S section for $1250, so my point is.....if you shop around you WILL be able to find a much cheaper one that fit your budget. But for those who are not struggling with money and have no problem paying an extra $100 for a lens that is proven, then I think it's only a small price to pay. Nowadays $100 can only fill up 1 tank of gas in my car so it's not too big of a deal if I don't sell this lens at the asking price, I wouldn't mind keeping it around for the special occasions where I might need the extra reach again, no big deal.
Local buyers are more than welcome to try it on your camera before you buy, and you are also welcome to bring another 100-400L to do side by side comparison. And I'll let you see the results at 100% on my computer with 37" 1080P LCD screen, if you are not impress with the result then don't buy it, simple as that! I don't understand why some of you have to be a jerk to come here and piss on my thread when you have absolutely no intention in buying lens like this or can’t afford to pay the extra $100.
And now I’m hesitating to do the transaction out of state in fear of jerks like you would most likely make false claim about my lens being soft when your hand holding skill is not up to the task. I think I should sell this lens solely to local buyer in DC area only, seeing is believing so you should see for yourself in person if this lens live up to your expectation or not, and I’ll let you decide if it worth the extra $100.
Oh crud you're right: there IS something soft in my hands. Must be my holding technique!
I have GOT to get away from this thread for awhile, but it's kinda like watching a train wreck...Hey, good luck with the sale. We're all pulling for you!
I am pretty sure this will be sold by EOD. Great price on a great lens !!!
people, pls check the screenshots of the lens carefully. Instead of the usual "red L ring", this one has a "24 carat yellow gold ring". Mystery solved ?
