OK all you new and lucky D700 owners I really would like to here how it works with the Nikon 70-200, My understanding is there is some issues with the D3 and the 70-200 so I am wondering if the D700 will inherit the same problems. I hope not!

The supposed issues were with the edge/corner performance of the lens. Right or wrong, how do you expect this to change with another full-frame camera?

I haven't seen any evidence of vignetting, which I was concerned about. No real obvious loss of sharpness in the corners so far either, but I'll need to test that a bit more rigorously this weekend.
Yes - definite vignetting with my 70-200 on both my D3 and D700. Super simple to fix in post and I actually usually leave it because I enjoy the effect. To each their own I suppose. Seeing as I primarily shoot portraits, soft corners aren't really something that I notice or care about a great deal so I can't honestly say either way.
Not technically perfect by any means (and not that a web image will tell you all that much), but we took the D700 & 70-200 out for a "field" test spin this afternoon and I just posted some images on my blog (http://www.stephaniecantin.ca/blog). All of the D700 shots were taken with the 70-200 and I'm very pleased with the initial results.
The latest firmware of the D3 added a vignetting correction. I put it on "normal" and I don't have vignetting problems anymore. The edge softness is still there, but can corrected with eg. DxO software if really necessary.
For it's not a big problem.
It's one of the rare times I'll fully agree with the likes of Ken Rockwell. I think if you are using a 70-200vr on a FF camera and expect sharp vignette free corners you are using the wrong tool. That's NOT what the 70-200 was intended for, and frankly it is very sharp indeed even wide open in the central area where a sports lens must be. I don't see it as a weakness on that lens....others just need things to whine about........
jvarszegi, sounds like you are religious about the DP site, good for you, but why you are so sensitive about it is another issue, and why you need to bring in people's mothers into the equation is beyond me. Must be your lack of something. Probably not that you have no web site or profile, or pictures.

You can see it through the VF without taking a picture...happy testing
