Just got this today. Some quick samples all shot at F2, outside at dusk, hand-held. Converted with Breezebrowser (proofs), no adjustments other then downsize and minor sharpening.

Congrats BuLLets on your new Lens. Great sample shots. Yes it is a tad expensive but I absolutely love mine. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do

Great shots. The 200 f/2 IS seems to make a super portrait lens, doesn't it ?

It's heavy with a 1ds mark iii, but it worked out just fine. I'd like to try it in slightly better lighting conditions. But from what I just shot it's looking good to say the least

I am still not impressed by all the images posted on FM so far from the 200/2.0L IS compared with those from 200/1.8L...

Have you noted the shutter speeds for the Bullet's images ?
You try that with the 200 f/1.8 hand held or even on a monopod....see what your keeper rate will be at f/30 or even f/50 sec.

haha...i can put the 200/1.8L on tripod, why using the monopod ? lol....

I would just bump up the ISO to 800-1600 and shoot, the IQ from 1Ds Mark III is still great....

I know when the lighting is good and everything is right, the stunning images from the 200/2.0 will come....we have to wait..

I understand your points, Lide.
However, we should keep in mind that anchoring the lens on any sort of a pod would alter the character of its use. For one, I have never used my 200 f/1.8 on a pod as I like to shoot with it while moving about (I don't do court sports).

Secondly, the 200 f/2 IS would also benefit from high ISO as much as the 200 f/1.8 does....except at any ISO the 200 f/2 IS would always have a few stops shutter speed advantage regarding camera/lens shake. Again, tripod is the only way you could continue to shoot with the 200 f/1.8 in the kind of a low light where hand-held 200 f/2 IS still gives fine results.

(Obviously, we are not talking action photography here.

+1 sorry. Great IS evidently, but so far none of that 'wow' factor that seems so common with the 1.8 images.

Erm no, I don't recall anyone saying that - but when you have no great samples available, it is hard to conclude it is worth $9000 (current UK price)

But this lens has been out in the US for long enough for someone to post some staggering images with it surely? All I seem to see is 'a few quick test shots'

I hasten to add that the few quick test shots I did outside the shop that sold me my 300/2.8 were stunning, and convinced me to buy it. I honestly don't understand why no-one seems to have any jawdroppers yet.....

You must have dragged a great model with you to the store, huh

. Plus, the lighting when you did that must have been great also.

Another thing that I noticed, most people here when they post test shots to show case some lenses, don't do any post processing. Normally, I would do my standard work flow of PP for images that I post. Comparison of images taken under different lighting conditions would be tough anyway. So, I post process my images to what I think would render them best first before posting.

I find the remarks about the pictures being inadequate annoying from the peanut galley members that don't even have the dam money for a point a shoot let a lone a 200 f/2

Some folks on this forum and DPR are attempting to compare the new lens to the 200 f/1.8 or 200 f/2 VR, based on a very few 200 f/2 IS test images posted so far, and without owning any of those lenses.

I'm not sure if that remark was aimed at me PrecisionPhoto. I mean no offence to anyone here, and I do appreciate the circumstances of these shots in particular. My (continuing) point is that I've yet to see 'wow' pictures from what should be a great lens, yet I have seen so many great shots from the 1.8 (which, I'll grant has been around for a lot longer). As someone on the verge of buying a 1.8, your comments about finance are somewhat misplaced.

Like I say, just telling it as I (and evidently Lidesun) see it.....
