I bought a Nikkor 50/1.8 AIS "long nose" for its small size and low weight, to use when I don't want to carry the Sigma. My intention was to use it stopped well down, but after some testing I find it quite good from f/2.8 and on. Even the bokeh is OK!
This is at f/2.8 on D700. No problems at all with flare or ghosting. The OOF blur discs are not round, but kind of neutral in illumination.
I'm no expert but your 180/2.8 APO shots exhibit a very dramatic "3D" effect and abrupt plane of focus. Makes for very nice looking shots, modern Leica glass at it's best. I really need to save $$ Paul, and you're not making it easy!

I've been wanting to get the lens for nearly 2 years, and I finally pulled the plug when I saved enough money to buy the lens.
I had to buy/sell few lenses in the process.
CV125 was one of them...
Sigma 50/1.4 wide open on FF (edit: Oh, it was at f/2!). I can really understand those of you that think the bokeh is too smooth, but you can always get any other 50 for the harsher look.

Thanks! I did "enhance" them quite a bit. The bokeh shifts character alot with distance and aperture. Closer focus and smaller aperture makes it smoother.

Edit: As you can see, the bokeh in the previous post is "worse" to the right. That's because I cropped the image from the left, and the bokeh is harsher towards the corners. In the middle, it gives more even illumination of the blur discs.
