Well seen (and captured)!
I really don't like the bokeh of that Vivitar though...

i quite like the first shot with it, the second is too much for me. i have a vivitar 28/2 close focus, which also has quite unique bokeh. here's a shot from it wide open (also on the NEX):

I had the (Komine) Vivitar 28/2 CF too and it was a nice lens -- better bokeh than the Kiron 28/2 or Vivitar 28/1.9. I think the Nikkor 28/2's is similar to the former and perhaps one of the best 28/2's for close-ups.

i'd have to agree with all those statements except for the last - the rokkor 28/2 is the best for close-ups that i've seen particularly with regard to bokeh IMHO (obviously a subjective judgement).

here's a few wide open close-ups from it that i've posted elsewhere (have only had it a couple months and work has pretty much stopped me from shooting at all during that time ):

I like this image. It's unique, beautiful and eye-catching. The OOF areas remind me of a peacocks tail. If it had been smooth and buttery, the picture, whilst pretty would not have been so eye-catching. Thanks for sharing

I just thought of your Rokkor shots after I submitted my post.
Have you used the Nikkor too?

only to test it out at a camera shop. oof highlights seemed quite similar to the vivitar, but the nikkor seemed to have a little less ghosting on in focus regions wide open. i decided the improvement wasn't enough to justify the price over the vivitar and that i would hold out to find a copy of the rokkor.

D700, Zuiko 100/2

I actually hate shots with one eye in focus. Don't know why this one makes the cut.

Plenty of *really* nice images just on this last page. If I'd pick one among many, I'd say Jim Schemels #2. Very very nice Jim.

That lens is a bit beyond my budget though 8-). Personally I was choosing between Samyangs manual 85/1.4 and Canons EF 85/1.8. The Samyang has some wonderful blur-qualities but in the end I choose Canons because of AF. Here are two shots to check the blur-qualities.

And a second from the same bridge over the water towards the oldtown in Stockholm. The tower is actually a medieval church that only has one tower. I've seen this effect when using EF50/1.4 on shallow DOF too, I guess it's natural... this is the 85/1.8 again.

looks like i need to amend my statement - i thought the rokkor and vivitar had pretty much the same mfd but it turns out the vivitar can focus about an inch and a half closer. while the rokkor has better bokeh in the equal focus distance range, the vivitar smooths out noticeably due to macro effects and looks better at mfd. do you know how the nikkor compares for actual mfd?

The Rokkor is always good for some funky rings.
I wouldn't neccessarily call the bokeh of the vivitar close up better than the Rokkor. In your mfd shots I very much prefer the Rokkor one although I usually prefer creamy.

should have said smoother rather than better. it is only smoother because it is focused closer too, if i backed up to match framing and focus of the rokkor it was actually less smooth (with a different kind of funkyness). i prefer look of the rokkor as well.
