Great shots, I use my 9 stop filter a lot and really enjoy the results from long exposures

OK, this post is responsible for my bank account being a lot lighter - just pushed the "buy" button on a Singh-Ray Variable ND. I like the variable-ness of the filter and living in an almost perpetually cloudy rain forest I figure I can get away with a max 8 stops for now (and I can ramp that up about 1-1/2 stops with a polarizer I already own). I figure I can add another ND or two once I get an idea how/if I'll use 'em.

I already have a ton of locations in mind for trying this out. Looking forward to creating something a bit different.

Now, exactly who do I send the bill to - Jan, for starting this thread, or Tom, for posting the majority of the photos?

Cheers everyone!

I've got the same question... Who do I send the bill to?? I just bought one too, so I'm damn excited to see what will happen in the next few days. Thank you all for the inspiration.

I deny any responsibility

Remember to post your results! I hope to do some more long exposures myself next month when I'm off to Norway.

Cheers,
Jan

I just wanted everyone in here to know that this thread helped me a lot to figure out how to (when it came) use my ND400 X. These are all from my first day (yesterday morning I believe). I hope Im off to a good start?! C&C are much appreciated

Great shots by all, I would love to see some more information on these techniques, using the Sing Ray ND 10 step, typical settings for different effects like slowing down waterfalls, beach rock shots etc.

I was worried that the 10-stop was a little more powerful than what I'm after, so I just pulled the trigger on a 6-stop ND earlier today. I've also got a Singh-Ray Blue n' Gold on the way, and am really looking forward to using those two filters together out west in a few weeks.

btw, nice images, and really cool effects, guys =)

Regards,

-Jeremy

I bought an 8 stop and used it today in full sun (11am), and found a 10 stop would be much more suitable. Even on f22 I couldn't still coudln't slow the shutter down enough. Still the 8 will be good for dusk etc..
