Couldn't say imacon vs. Coolscan 9000, as I've used neither. The only scanning I do sometimes (rarely) is of optically printed 8x10s on a flatbed. (it leaves a fair bit to be desired). I enjoy the full analog workflow.

That first street shot - with the lights and the buildings - is very powerful. We had some friends from Sweden (Lulea) stay with us a couple of years ago. I understand that you are going into the long dark night
And yes, the winter isn't very fun when you spend most of the daylight hours indoors, at work. There's supposed to fall some snow this weekend, which would be nice. It makes quite a difference.
