If you get a chance, I highly recommend camping. There's only a few campsites on the island, so getting a reservation can be tricky. But once the last ferry leaves, there's not many people left on the island. If the fog cooperates, you get awesome nighttime views of the San Francisco skyline and the bridges across the bay.
