I recently parted ways with my trusty Nikon F kit, but I wound up keeping my 55mm f/2.8 Micro. I just got a really nice F4 body to go with it and now I'm trying to think of what I want to put on there that's inexpensive and decent on film. I have my doubts about using AF on the camera... I'm perfectly fine with manual focus and I don't want to spend a lot. (Ideally sub $200) I'm fond of primes over zooms and I like 20/28/35/50/85/105 as focal lengths.
Though I predominantly use Leica Ms as my system of choice, I was thinking back to when I used SLRs exclusively (Canon EOS) and 35/85 was a much favored combo. I'm laying the groundwork for a long-term project and it will be involving a lot of portraiture and details. I'm assuming it's going to be predominantly done on film but I'll do some digital where necessary.
In my mind I was considering the 35mm f/2 AF-D and the 85mm f/1.8 AF-D if they could be acquired inexpensively....Show more →
85mm f2 Ai-S. Sweet lens. Small and handles like a Leica. Perfect for portraits.
After finding and messing up a Zorki 4, I got myself a more reliable rangefinder: a Canon P. Following shots taken with Canon 50mm 1.8, Fuji Superia 200 scanned with Pakon F135.
Black-and-white with Minolta AF-C 35mm 2.8, very expired (early 1990's) Kodak Plus X at 50 iso, 8 minutes in HC110 dilution B at 20 Celsius. Pakon 135.
