If this is a 35mm camera, it looks like the light seal has failed on the rear film door. Try using black tape along the top edge (and other sides) and going back out into bright light hitting the top of the rear door. It's not likely to be a light leak from the lens mount unless the camera was seriously dropped and the mount been bent.
Hmm. never thought about that. This is very plausible. The top photo was taken towards the sun and the second photo was taken exactly away from the sun. Never thought about light coming from the back. This is the only photo I've ever had affected. I'll try to reproduce it on my next roll of film by shining a flashlight on the back. I appreciate the insight.
From my first roll (Delta 100) with a borrowed MF camera, a Mamiya M645, developed in Ilfosol 3. Enjoying the MF film experience a lot, love the WLF and the mechanical clunkiness of the Mamiya.

Huss - Yes, that's exactly the same tree. That's always been a favorite spot of mine, growing up in Monterey and going to Carmel Beach almost on a daily basis back then. Back then, I think I was still experimenting with some basic compositional ideas that my father had taught me when he first showed my how to use a Weston Master III meter. He was big on the whole framing the scene with a tree theme, and come to think of it, that may be the ONLY compositional trick he beat into me. But this is also why it's important not to throw out old images (and to keep looking for them) because they provide clues into who you might become as a photographer later in life. And, btw, I do like your black and white more mid-day interpretation of the same area. What I can't remember is if I took more than this one frame. It's the only one I've come across so maybe that's it. Film was a big expense for me back then, so that might be. ...Show more →
Yes, that is a beautiful Cypress tree there at entrance to Carmel beach. A favorite of mine too. Like both of your shots there.
Thanks for sharing them and the stories behind them.

At least that tree is still there and we're actually allowed to take a photo of it, unlike the one just a few short miles away from it.

Boy that's wide! What did you shoot this on? It seems surprisingly green as well (color-balance wise) but I like it. It feels fresh and alive
I used my Nikon FM2n w/20mm f/2.8 Ai-S lens to make that shot. None of my medium format gear goes this wide so when required I use my Nikon and 35mm film.
