I want to throw out an idea I have about starting a "Not So Recent Film Shots" thread. I was given 5 large storage boxes after my father died in the early 70's. The boxes contain small, medium, and large format negatives & chromes of a large variety of subjects and locations, spanning over 50 years. Among them included two of the Hindenburg over the Connecticut Sound heading to Lakehurst, NJ; chilling at the least. If you you think that this is not the time nor place for this kind of work, please let me know your thoughts. My Dad put a camera in my hand in 1957 (just before Sputnik), and I developed and printed those photos I took, thinking it was all magic, which it was then (and still is) to me.
Like toy trains sitting on a shelf, images in boxes and drawers that are deserving, should be seen and shared...
Just my two cents...tell me what you think of the posted image; the Coronation 6220 - Fastest Train in Britain (116MPH - The Mallard did 126MPH but it has been said that the conditions were questionable). It was on tour in the U.S. during 1937, and this shot was taken in Providence, Rhode Island. Film was Verichrome Pan, and was taken with some kind of 6x4.5 folder; need to figure that one out...
The Coronation - Britain's Fastest Steam Train now repainted (6225) and on display in NYC
It came out a couple of years ago as a limited edition but is still available at freestyle last time I checked. I kind of like it, takes a little getting used to and better to overexpose some. I developed this roll tonight after shooting a roll over the weekend. Just develop like regular C-41 film. I shoot it mostly at ISO 100 but some like to go higher it brings out more red if you do. I've gotten some good prints with it, not every shot is good but when you do get a good one it is nice and people like it as I get request for it.

roboticspro,
What a great treasure & legacy from your dad.
Historical film images seem to impart something unique when done right.
Thanks for posting

Edd, fantastic opportunity, bring it on!
Dan and Carsten: Thank you both for the support; this really is something that I want to do for this community on FM. I'm sure that there are some pretty fine images/time-spaces that have been passed down to many of the members here through the generations, but they were never really appreciated to their fullest.
I did some checking into the vintage gear that was gifted to me by my family, and it turns out that the "Coronation 6220" photos were taken with a KODAK Duo SIX-20, built in Dresden, Germany in the mid-1930's. I found the camera this morning, complete with leather case, and it is now in the hands of my trusted camera technician, getting cleaned up for use in the 21st Century...
I will have the thread started by this weekend, with some more images of the Coronation, and the crowds that got to see it.
