That's basically it, I would recommend you check out some tutorials on YouTube to get a visual idea as well it helps a lot especially when you get to agitation of the tank and loading reels. If you are going to print you need an enlarger. Two books I highly recommend are Ansel Adams - 'the negative' as well as a book called 'Into your darkroom step by step'

So, as far as developing my own film goes, is it making a negative, and also print any size paper photo I want afterward? I know once I get the negative, I can use my Epson V500, to make it digitized, but, am I on the right track to understanding the process? Say I have a ready 120 roll of film, I then use the chemical's and rules, in order to make it into a negative? I am currently trying to understand it all, before I purchase the needed equipment, piece by piece, to turn our sparsely used restroom,

Americo, this is a good source for chemicals, film, and dark room equipment.
http://www.freestylephoto.biz/

Their house brand film, Arista EDU Ultra , is pretty good film and is inexpensive enough to learn on. I like 400 speed the best.

Good luck,
Gary

Thank you very much, for your time, and thorough explanation!

For about $120 you can get a complete "darkroom" setup to develop your own B&W with enough chemicals for ~70 or so rolls of 35mm. I'd recommend getting from Freestyle Photo and B&H Photo (certain things even w/shipping are cheaper at one place or the other):
- Patterson 2-reel tank + reel
- large changing bag
- Adonal developer (also known as rodinal)
- a gallon of fixer
- a bottle of kodak PhotoFlo
- 600ml graduated cylinder (10 or 25ml increments, forget which)
- 50ml graduated cylinder (1ml increments)

Rodinal is stupid easy to use- stand developing is a great way to start. Don't even have to measure the temperature at all. You let the negatives soak in a 1 part rodinal to 100 parts water solution (3ml of rodinal for a roll of 35mm in a patterson tank, 297ml of water) for 60 minutes. Roll it over 5 times at the start, roll it over 5 times at around 30 minutes. Stop bath with water. Fix for 4-6 minutes. Rinse, then photoflo, then hang from a clothes hanger with some clothespins or paper clips (w/some on the bottom as a weight).

The changing bag is how you load the film onto the reels.. put everything in the bag, you can sit at a table or on the couch and do it. Plastic reels are fine for this too. No dark room needed, just a pair of scissors and a can opener if you don't have the leader of the 35mm film out.

After you learn how to develop in Rodinal, then go to D76, mix the powder, store it in a 1L air evacuation bottle, and do the temperature control.. Rodinal is cheaper because you don't need the storage bottle, it lasts forever, and you don't need a thermometer

If I could figure out why the new Yahoo CEO thinks she knows what's best for all of us, this post would contain two film shots of some TX county courthouses. But, since I have no idea why she thinks that and I can't figure out where in the hell they put the old BBCode, you'll just have to use your imagination.

Kenny, if you're talking flickr, I had to hack it a bit. Open the photo page, click on the ellipsis "..." click on download.. a popup will appear-- right click (or long click if on a mac) on the size you want and copy image URL. Paste into FM, drop s from https. Had to do that in my last image post on the last page

Which film did you use here?

I've been seriously considering a Mamiya AFD 645 but then I look at Rollei shots and I think I need to invest more time with my 2.8E. Just find focusing kind of hit and miss.

Do you stop down when shooting? Stock focus screen? Thinking of switching to a Maxwell screen to see if that helps. The knob on my shutter is really tough to turn too, despite getting CLA'd about a year ago!

I don't know that much about Flikr. But, what I do is click on the pic I want to share from the opening page. This opens the pic in 'my photostream' , then click on the square with the arrow that opens a dialogue box where the BB code hides.

Keep the shots from Turkey coming. I wish you showed up here a month earlier. I could have gone to Turkey but just didnt feel the inspiration. Your photos have changed that, sadly too late for this year.

Okay, more annoying rookie questions regarding this ancient and still fascinating medium, FILM!
CAFFENOL, yay, nay, or, no Americo, just stay away from it all! xD I'm suffering from full auto, and manual control, from lack of a digicam, other than my cell, however, I find that the ancient art of film, has me coming back for more, and the urge of failure keeps me wanting to do it more!

Ummm... so you're not comfortable with shooting a roll of film, but you're asking about alternative processes?

Look- just get a roll of any film- here is a cheap color one:
http://www.freestylephoto.biz/83140981-Kodak-Ektar-100-iso-120-Size-Single-Roll-Unboxed

Blow through 10 frames, then spend another $5 plus shipping to send it here:
http://www.northcoastphoto.com/film_developing_scans.html

When you get your negatives in the mail, scan them and you're set- you can print as if it were digital.

In terms of developing your own, it does take a little bit of play, and someone to show you all the pitfalls. When you get comfortable with the media, then I would consider getting into basic developing- D76, Xtol, Rodinal are pretty straight forward.

Then you can think about trying out other artsy stuff- caffenol, cyanotype, pyro, etc

Just my 2 cents

Yes, you see, here is where the idea kind of made sense to me, in a madman kind of fashion! Since, I fear the film, and, I have already used one 5 frame roll, that I may have already literally blown, whether by over exposure, underexposure, or just no exposure period, then, why not just save a few film dollars developing elsewhere, and, well, just jump head first to a shallow jean pool!? I do apologize for coming off as a dimwitted oaf, that fears his own shadow, and abilities, its just that, I would hate to waste this marvelous film Kodak made just because I can't instantly see the picture as I was trained and spolied rotten, shooting DSLR's! I am an easily confused, and low tolerant directions follower, just ask my wife!
Thanks for the pointers, I really do appreciate them, and, I hope to soon put them to use, and when I do, rest assured, that I will gladly give everyone here greatly earned, thanks, from the pit of my sou! Thank you greatly, for your time, pointers, and ability to withstand my oddities! Sincerely, Americo.rodriguez!

Please waste film. Kodak and Ilford need more business. Shoot without fear. Waste film. I do all the time.

You have to realize that with negative film, you can ERROR massively and still have a nice image. You can over expose by 3-4 stops with Kodak Portra film and it will look just fine.

Further, metering a scene is not that hard. Hell, shoot the scene with a digital camera and copy over the shutter speed and aperture. I shoot 5 rolls of film per week at the very minimum if weather allows. You *NEED* to get started sir.
