rattymouse -- Those are looking pretty good! Nice sharpness and contrast -- at least in this size. I had forgotten that camera, like most 6x4.5, shoot vertical frames in the standard position! So, what have you come up with for processing and scanning?

Pfiltz -- Welcome to the new Dust Bowl Era. Nice shot!

Yeah, I shoot a LOT more vertical these days than I normally do. Feels a bit odd for now.

I found a local lab that processes and scans. They are OK for now. I found another, more professional lab but they work by mail order. I am going to give them a try next.

I've also got a developing tank on order. So I will take over that for B & W for now.

Quite the adventure this camera has started.

Thanks for looking.

Posting this more for the story involved than aesthetic reasons however if anyone remembers the Paul Newman movie from 1972, The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, he was a legend in his on time and quite a colorful character. Had the chance to stop by his office while in Texas. One side was a bar, the other side a billiard room and he held court on the front porch. Since there was no jail, every offense included a fine, the more severe the offense, the more severe the fine with all the money going into his pocket. All jurors in a trial were required to buy a drink from his bar at recess and recesses were often. He was obsessed with an British actress and named the town after her. Known as the "Law west of the Pecos," here is his place located on US 90 down near the US/Mexico border in Langtry.

here is a selection i uploaded, all taken with my olympus om-2n and my new zuiko 28 2.8 (what a gem, only paid 39 bucks for it and what a great lens this is!) on agfa apx 100:

Well, I feel like I am finally making a little bit of progress toward the IQ I'd like to have from 35mm color neg. What an uphill battle! Between equipment, film limitations, and processing/scanning, there is so much to coordinate!

In the last few weeks, I basically rebuilt my old 35mm film set-ups. I now have a Canon FD "system" with AE-1 Program and the last manual Canon I owned before going EOS, the T90. I'd been building FD lenses for M4/3 use, so I just shifted the emphasis. Currently have 24/2.8, 28/2 (coming), 35/2.8 (coming), 50/1.4, 50/3.5 Macro, 28-85/4 (coming) and 85-300/4.5.

In EOS, I have the 1N, and access to all my "normal" EF lenses.

The FD l lenses are quite good, and the bodies can turn in some fine shots, equal in quality to the EOS lenses. The hassle comes in with the manual focusing: having to wear reading glasses to uses the split prism and micro-collar. Just a lot slower and more challenging.

I found a local Walgreens that seems to be able to process reliably, and scan to 2-3MP jpg. Not great, but good enough to see what's on the film and PP a bit for web. The price is right though! They only do 35mm, no 120. There are a lot of resources here in LA, it's just a matter of tracking them down, and paying to see how they do.

Most of the following are from this morning at Cal State University Northridge and feature the 1N with 28/2.8 and 50/2.5 Macro. I shot the T90 as A-B comparison using the FD 24/2.8 and 50/3.5 Macro, and had very similar results. But the exposure and color on the 1N were more to my liking.

This is my first time trying the Fuji Superia 100, which I bought 40 rolls of. So far, I'm liking it better than the Kodak Ektar, but I'll need to run some Ektar with the same processing and scanning to see more concrete results. Contrast is still very high, and scanning has the images very hot -- 1/3 to 1 full stop over. Whatcha gonna do?

Here are two with the FD system. The first is AE-1 Program with 24/2.8. The second is T90 with 50/3.5 macro.

The rest are 1N with 28/2.8 and 50/2.5.

personally I wouldn't let Walgreens touch my Ektar, Portra, Reala or really any film that's not throw-away stuff (Gold 400, Pro 100, etc).

Walmart will use the Fuji mailers, they do a really good job but you have to buy prints.

I wish I knew the person who worked there, those machines must be capable of better scans if only I could get in and set it up myself =/

So far this Walgreens is the best of the low budget develop/scan places. Naturally, if this were an assignment, I'd take the film to a Cadillac-priced lab! I've used more expensive labs that scratched the film and left debris on it -- at least this film is clean and scratch-free. What more do you want?

If I'm running 3 to 6 rolls per week for "fun", I don't want to pay upwards of $25 per roll for the privilege! That's some serious money I could contribute to my digital habit.

Also, I want the results quickly. As I often do, I was running two camera set-ups for all the shots to do comparison. I will forget most salient details in a week or two. The sad thing about the film is there is no exif -- you have to remember the lens, aperture, and shutter -- that's quite a lot to recall a week later, with continued experiments or assignments in the meantime. Maybe I'm dumb, but I get confused using so many cameras and lenses, if I don't maintain a tight development/PP regimen. Film is definitely the toughest to stay on top of!
